I want to take a moment to remind families about a few important rules and expectations as we move further into the school year.

🎧 Headphones
Any headphones brought to school must remain in lockers once the first bell rings in the morning. They should not be in use during the school day unless a teacher gives permission for a specific activity.

đź’§ Water Bottles
Only clear, plastic water bottles are allowed at school — no glass bottles, and only water may be inside. We have both a bottle-filling station and a water fountain available in the middle school. Please note that the small paper cups in the office are only for taking medicine. Students who need a drink will need to use the fountain or bring a refillable clear bottle.

📝 Make-Up Work
If a student misses school — whether due to illness, a school activity, or another reason — it is the student’s responsibility to ask their teachers for missing work. The days allowed to make up the work begin when the student returns, not when they ask for the assignments. It is important for students to take initiative, ask what they missed, and confirm deadlines if they are unsure.

🎉 Homecoming Week
HHS All-School Homecoming is quickly approaching, with activities beginning on September 29th. You’ll find more information in this week’s newsletter about spirit week and the Homecoming parade. Please also take this time to refresh yourself on our spectator guidelines so that all events are safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you for working with us to reinforce these expectations at home. When we’re consistent, our students are set up for success!

Classroom Expectations

These are our school-wide expectations for our students. Positive behavior fosters an environment where ALL students can learn and grow. It is our hope that our HMS families will discuss our school-wide behavior expectations and encourage positive behaviors at school and home.

Common Areas Expectations

Our school-wide expectations extend beyond the classroom. It is important that students also realize they are accountable for their behaviors in the hallway, cafeteria and at all school sponsored activities on and off campus.

Tips for a Successful School Year Tips for a Successful School Year

To help you start strong, here are a few simple ways to set yourself up for success:

  • Be organized: Use your planner daily to keep track of assignments, projects, and important dates.

  • Ask for Help Early: If something doesn’t make sense, don’t wait until you’re behind — talk to your teacher or counselor right away.
  • Use Your Time Wisely: Stay focused during class, and finish your homework daily.
  • Be present: Attendance matters! Being here every day helps you keep up and feel confident.
  • Get involved: Join a club, sport, or activity to make friends and try new things.

  • Be respectful: Kindness and good behavior make our school a great place to learn. A good attitude goes a long way!

  • Rest Well: Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep — and put those phones away at night so you’re ready to learn each morning!

LOCKER TIPS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR LOCKER TIPS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR

Lockers are a middle school tradition—but they can be tricky at first!

  • Don’t overstuff it – Only keep what you need for the day.

  • Use shelves or organizers to make extra space.

  • Practice your combination until it’s second nature.

  • Avoid storing food—trust me, it will start to smell!

  • Do a weekly clean-out so you can always find what you need.
