Board of Education Briefs: 10/27/25
2025-26 Fall Assessment Update
Our Fall data discussion identified a number of strengths and opportunities for improvement. This link will take you to the Board report and this link goes to the actual data slide deck. On Thursday, October 30th, a letter was sent to District 161 families with information about the annual school report cards. At the Board meeting on November 17, 2025, we will discuss the summative ratings, the final 2024-25 Illinois Assessment of Readiness [IAR] data, and the current School Improvement Plans.
2026 Construction Scope
We are preparing for stage 2 of our school renovation work. During the summer of 2026, we are planning to renovate Parker Junior High School [paint, lighting, furniture, etc.], with HVAC improvements at Flossmoor Hills and Western Avenue Schools. During the summer of 2027, we will complete our Long Range Construction Plan by renovating Flossmoor Hills and Western Avenue [paint, lighting, furniture].
2025 Property Tax Levy
Discussions began regarding the 2025 property tax levy. It is important to note that the State of Illinois did not fund a Property Tax Relief Grant for the 2025-26 year. The administration presented three levy options to the Board of Education for consideration. The full presentation can be found here. At its next meeting, the Board will receive additional details on each of the options presented and will vote to approve one as a tentative levy.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) at HH
The PBIS Cool Tool for the month of November is Respond with Respect. At Heather Hill School, we follow the Respond With Respect Cool Tool when speaking to others in our school and community. We show respect to others by speaking with an inside voice, and we model SOLER: S-square up, O-open posture, L-lean in, E-eye contact, and R-respond. When someone says something or does something that makes you uncomfortable, you can let them know how it made you feel by:
- Saying I did not like it when…
- It made me feel…
- Next time I would like…
- The person respectfully responds back with… I heard you say and next time I will…
If we follow these expectations, then we are being safe, respectful, and responsible when speaking to others and when solving our problems.

Neptune Navigate Digital Citizenship
This school year, our students will participate in the Neptune Navigate Digital Citizenship curriculum. Each module is designed to be engaging and informative, taking 30 minutes or less to complete. Our goal is to ensure that students learn how to be safe and smart online and understand the importance of building a positive digital reputation. See the September and October themes below!
Donations Needed!
Do you have used children's clothes in good condition? We are looking for donations for our nurse's office. These donations will help provide a change of clothes when needed due to accidents, etc. We are looking for all types of clothing: shorts, pants, shirts, underwear, socks, even shoes. The stretchier the materials, the better. Please bring bags labeled for donations to the office. We appreciate your help!
