The Weekly Words
February 16, 2026
At Noble Elementary, we believe that every student has the right to learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. We also believe that every student has the power to make positive choices, learn from mistakes, and become stronger leaders in our school community. Noble Elementary empowers all students for college and career readiness through AVID’s schoolwide focus on WICOR, student success skills, and a growth mindset.
Happy Presidents’ Day, Noble! Today we honor the leadership, vision, and courage it takes to move a nation forward. As we reflect our nation and the impact of the president role, we’re also reminded that we are shaping the future presidents, innovators, and changemakers walking our halls every day. Thank you for the work you do to inspire leadership and possibility in every student.

The Why, Our Oxygen
Team,
Our BLT meeting last Tuesday prompted me to reflect on an important question: What is my WHY? It may be the most important question we ask ourselves as we begin each day at Noble. Our WHY grounds us. It serves as our compass and fuels our work, regardless of circumstances, challenges, successes, or setbacks. Our WHY sustains us and gives purpose to what we do.
My WHY is rooted in a deep belief in empowering our students to achieve what may seem impossible. I am committed to educating the whole child; supporting their growth academically, emotionally, and personally, so they can overcome obstacles and develop into confident, capable, and successful members of our community. That is my WHY.
What is yours?
Mr. Walker, M.Ed.
Principal
From the Assistant Principal's Desk
Hi Team,
Last week at Noble, staff continued reinforcing strong expectations and positive behavior across campus. While we have seen many positive examples of students meeting expectations, we must remain vigilant and proactive in identifying early signs of conflict; changes in tone, body language, peer dynamics, and escalating behaviors, and intervening early to prevent situations from intensifying. As we move forward, strong supervision and clearly reinforced expectations in high-traffic areas such as the cafeteria, hallways, and recess remain essential. Consistency, visibility, and proactive redirection will continue to be critical in maintaining a safe, calm, and focused learning environment for all.
Please continue checking the Daily Discipline Log each morning, sending students to ALC with meaningful work when appropriate, and contacting families the same day a referral is submitted, ensuring communication is logged in PLP. As we progress through Q3, keep the cognitive heavy lifting with students by using strategies such as wait time, Everybody Writes, cold call, and protected independent practice. Thank you for your collective effort in making the recent Noble All-Stars Assembly a success and for continuing to recognize and celebrate students who model our expectations each day.
Ms. Barrett

Communication Plan - Persons with Disabilities
The District has adopted a plan for communications with persons with disabilities, which is available at the following link: Communication Plan. The plan establishes procedures to ensure that the District's communications with persons with disabilities, including applicants, participants, members of the public, and companions with disabilities, are as effective as its communications with others.
OST Draft Plan/Schedule
OST is right around the corner. Please take a few moments to review the OST Draft, which includes a tentative testing schedule. Your feedback is essential, add any questions, concerns, or suggestions directly into the sheet so we can refine the plan and ensure a smooth and successful testing experience for our students and staff.
District Learning Walks
Members of our Central Office and Curriculum & Instruction teams will be conducting district learning walks, and Noble’s visit is scheduled for the week of February 23. This is an opportunity to showcase the strong instruction, meaningful relationships, and student-centered learning environments that define Noble. Please continue to demonstrate Noble Pride by maintaining clear expectations, purposeful instruction, and classrooms that reflect the excellence happening across our building.
Q3 Interim Preparation
The Interim Q3 testing window runs Monday, March 2 through Thursday, March 19. All Interims have been uploaded to the Interim & Benchmark folder, so you can begin your Before tasks now.
As you prepare for Interim Q3, please remember to:
Take the test yourself. Taking the assessment first allows you to backwards design instruction, anticipate student thinking, and start the quarter with clear instructional questions in mind.
Complete Part 1 of the Data Analysis Protocol by predicting performance and noting curiosities.
Please note that the following assessments have been updated:
All Math Interims
Grades 3–5 ELA
Grades 4, 6, 7, and 8 Science
Interim Q3 assessments will be given in Grades 3–8 ELA and Math; Grades 4, 6, 7, and 8 Science; Algebra 1; Geometry; ELA 2; American History; American Government; and Biology.
Grade 5 Science will take a Benchmark during the Q3 window. Please be sure to approach the Benchmark the same way as an Interim by taking the test yourself and completing Part 1 of the Data Analysis Protocol before testing begins.
For step-by-step guidance, please refer to the Before, During, After (BDA) Interims/Benchmarks document available in the Interim & Benchmark folder and on Clever under Assessments.
Student Retention Protocol
It's that time of the year to complete the recommendation process for those students who might be considered for retention. Retention should primarily be considered only in K-2. However, if you are a 3-5 teacher and are considering a retention recommendation, let me know. Here is a general timeline for the process...
Now - Feb. 13th: Have conversations with the student's parents regarding your concern and introduce the idea of retention (if you haven't already).
Now - Feb 20: Complete and turn in data supporting your concern, including the Light's Retention Scale. You can find a copy in black folders in my mailbox and you can turn it into the same folder (look for your grade-specific black folder).
Feb 18 or Feb 25 - Meet with myself and Admin. to discuss your recommendation
March 4, 11, or 18,- Team will meet with parents to discuss the concern and the option of retention. No official decision to retain will be made at this time.
Early May - follow up meetings with parents to discuss progress and/or the recommendation for retention.
Questions? Feel free to ask!
Elementary Grade Level Meetings
In February's GLTM, you all will have a 90 minute training on how to access and utilize reports within Lexia. Following the training, you'll have 30 minutes to dive into your reports.
Lastly, you all will have 60 minutes to share an instructional practice within Wonders that has impacted writing. Sharing will take place within a small group. For those of you in the Clarity Cohort, sharing will follow a similar format to the small group sharing that took place during session 3 in January!
Math Resource by Standard
We are thrilled to introduce our new Resources by Standard Document, a centralized home for instructional materials organized by standard and grade level. This tool streamlines our district-adopted materials and supplemental resources into one easy-to-navigate space. It was designed to help you act on data from interims, benchmarks, HMH standards reports and provide focused OST review.
Q2 Targeted Response Guide
The Quarter 2 Target Response Guide (TRG) is now complete for elementary. This is just a resource to help you unpack your data from Q2 Interims. Please note that the linked document above is for Quarter 2 only and is the same version found in the Quarter 2 tab of the main document. Please find this building template as an added resource.
