This Week at PHS
It’s a big week at Pearland High School! As we celebrate Character Counts Week, each day will highlight one of the six pillars that define our community—Trustworthiness, Respect, Fairness, Caring, Responsibility, and Good Citizenship. Students and staff are encouraged to show their spirit by wearing the color of the day and joining in the campus-wide celebration of positive character.
On Tuesday, students will have the opportunity for picture retakes in Room 1501. Those who missed the original picture day have already been identified and will receive a pass, while any student wanting to retake their photo can request one from their Social Studies teacher.
Wednesday brings exciting opportunities: 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT on Wednesday, seniors will participate in College and Career Day, and freshmen will continue instruction on an adjusted schedule to accommodate testing.
We’ll close out the week in true Oiler fashion with a Pep Rally on Friday as we get ready for a huge district matchup that could clinch the District Championship. Let’s fill the stands, wear our maroon and black, and cheer our Oilers to victory!
Continue reading below for more details, celebrations, and highlights from across the campus.
Picture Retakes - Tuesday October 21st
Exciting news! If you placed your photo order before Underclass Picture Day, your pictures were shipped out Monday.
For students who didn’t pre-order, photos are now available to view and order online at cady.com/orderphotos. Once on the Cady site, simply search by your student’s name and grade.
Picture retakes will be held on Tuesday, October 21, in Room 1501. Students who wish to take or retake their photo may request a pass from their Social Studies teacher. Those who missed the original picture day have already been identified and will automatically receive a pass to ensure their photo is taken.
We would love for all students to participate so their photo is included in this year’s yearbook.
Displaced Freshmen Classes - October 22nd
While our 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT and our seniors participate in College and Career Day, freshmen will continue with a slightly adjusted bell schedule to ensure they don’t miss a day of instruction.
To accommodate the 1,800 students testing on campus, all 9th-grade classes will be temporarily relocated to the downstairs Bullard area, where most of our social studies classrooms are located.
Teachers will share their relocated classroom assignments with students during class on Monday and Tuesday, so everyone knows exactly where to go on Wednesday.
We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we work to provide a smooth and productive day for all students.
PSAT Testing Details: October 22nd
10th and 11th Grade
On Wednesday, October 22nd, 10th and 11th grade students will take the 2025 administration of the PSAT/NMSQT exam FREE of charge. The exam will be given during school hours.
Students will be taking the digital administration of the PSAT through the Bluebook application. We encourage all students to familiarize themselves with key aspects of the app before the test.
Students will need to bring their district device on testing day fully charged as well as their chargers. Students will also need to make sure to have their school ID.

Calculators will NOT be provided. A built-in Desmos graphing calculator is available for the entire Math section. If a student wishes, they can bring their own calculator. A link to a list of acceptable calculators can be found on page 20 of the 2025 Official Student Guide.
We strongly encourage you to speak with your child about taking the PSAT seriously as there are benefits to a good performance on this exam.
If your child attends classes at Turner in the morning please note that transportation will not be provided to and from Turner HS. All PHS students should report to PHS Wednesday morning. Transportation to and from Turner will begin in the afternoon after testing is complete at approximately 11:30.
Senior College and Career Day: October 22nd!
Seniors Only
We are excited to share that on October 22nd, our seniors will take part in a College and Career Day, a day of learning designed to prepare them for life after high school.
Attendance is required for all seniors and absences will impact exemptions. The day will be filled with sessions tailored to individual interests and future goals. Whether your student plans to attend college, pursue a trade, join the military, or enter the workforce, there will be something valuable for everyone.
Students can choose from a wide range of sessions, including:
-
How to safely jump-start a car
-
How to cook in a dorm room
-
Trade school presentations
-
Understanding credit and financial responsibility
-
Job interview skills
…and many more!
A full list of available sessions is listed in RtI Scheduler for students to chose from. We encourage you to review the options with your student and help them select three sessions that align with their interests and aspirations.
The day will begin at 7:15 AM in the Bullard Cafeteria, where seniors can enjoy donuts and time with friends before a Senior Meeting covering key information about the year ahead. Students who have not yet finalized their session choices in RTI Scheduler will be able to do so at that time.
Session schedule:
-
Session 1 – 8:20 AM
-
Session 2 – 9:25 AM
-
Session 3 – 10:30 AM
After the PSAT concludes, seniors will return to their 5th-period classes, enjoy lunch, and follow their regular afternoon schedule.
This day is a wonderful opportunity for our seniors to gain practical skills and confidence as they prepare for their next chapter.
Celebrations
Volleyball
All three volleyball teams dominated Pasadena Memorial in the Pressure Pit on Friday, closing out Senior Night with a sweep! The energy from our fans was incredible as we celebrated our seniors and their outstanding contributions to the program.
Be sure to come out and support the team in their final regular-season home game this Tuesday, October 21, as they take on Shadow Creek in what promises to be a powerful night—Dig Blue Night. This special game raises funds to support Kes Baker, a beloved father in our volleyball family who is currently battling cancer.
Each year, our volleyball program hosts this event in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but this time the cause hits even closer to home. All proceeds from the door and concessions will go directly to the Baker family. Here’s how you can help: Donations will be accepted up through the match on October 21.Donate here
Come cheer on our Oilers, bid on amazing raffle and silent auction items, and show what it means to be part of a caring community that rallies behind its own.
Theatre & Choir – Little Women Success
Congratulations to our Theatre and Choir programs for completing their run of the first musical of the year, Little Women! The production was a tremendous success—every element, from the staging to the singing and acting, captivated the audience and kept them on the edge of their seats.
It was a powerful and moving performance that showcased the incredible talent of our students and directors. If you missed it, don’t worry you’ll have another chance to see them shine in our next production, Seussical the Musical. More details coming soon!
Oilers Dominate Pasadena Memorial
Our Oilers continued their undefeated season with a commanding 48–0 win over Pasadena Memorial on Thursday night!
Leading the charge were Ja’Maurey Champion and Royce Swan, who combined for six touchdowns and over 190 rushing yards. The team’s ground game totaled 261 rushing yards, marking the 11th straight game with at least 176 yards on the ground. Defensively, Joseph Credit and C.J. Birkelbach each snagged interceptions, while Taylen Alviza added a sack and eight tackles to shut down the opposition.
With the win, Pearland moves to 8–0 and now turns its focus to a huge matchup against Shadow Creek this Friday with major playoff implications on the line.
Cross Country
Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams for advancing to regionals! Both teams will compete at Sam Houston State University this Tuesday, with the girls racing at 9:45 AM and the boys at 10:30 AM.
We’re proud of their hard work and dedication. The Cross Country team is often among the first to arrive on campus, putting in the miles long before the school day begins and that commitment is clearly paying off.
