From the Principal - A Season of Gratitude and Growth From the Principal - A Season of Gratitude and Growth

Hello Riverview Families,

As we move through November, our focus this month is on gratitude — one of the most powerful ways we can strengthen our school community. Every day, I’m reminded of how much we have to be thankful for here at Riverview. From the smiles and kindness of our students to the dedication of our teachers and the unwavering support of our families, gratitude truly surrounds us.

This season offers the perfect opportunity to pause and appreciate the small moments, the encouraging words, the teamwork, and the shared joy of learning together. Thank you for being such an important part of what makes Riverview a special place for children to grow and thrive.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal

Tips to Stay Healthy as Sickness Increases

Dear Families,

As we see an increase in illnesses, including GI issues, here are some important reminders to help keep our students healthy:

Wash Hands Often

  • Frequent handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs.

Keep Your Child Home If:

  • They have a fever of 100.0°F or higher

  • They are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea

  • They have not been symptom-free for a full 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication

Stay Home Until:

Your child has been symptom-free for at least 24 hours. This helps protect their classmates and school staff from illness.

Questions? Contact Our Wonderful Nurses:

  • Jill Freisberg – jfreisberg@usd232.org

  • Nancy Tausz – ntausz@usd232.org

Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy!

Weekly Shoutouts-A BIG thank you to artist Jake Angell Weekly Shoutouts-A BIG thank you to artist Jake Angell

This week, we are celebrating our an AMAZING artist!

Our 5th graders had an incredible experience when Mrs. Seyb and Ms. Pursell welcomed Jake Angell, Senior Artist for Hallmark, to Riverview! Jake creates animatronics and ornaments for Hallmark, and he shared with students how he goes through the artistic process while using technology, including 3D printing, to bring his creations to life. This visit provided a fantastic real-world connection to what students are currently exploring in 5th grade technology class with 3D printing. We are so thankful to Jake, a longtime Kansas City resident and former Riverview parent, for inspiring our students and showing them how creativity and innovation work together. A special thanks to Ms. Traci Seyb for arranging this unique learning opportunity!

Is all the Halloween candy turning your kids into monsters? Have no fear because the TRUE candy monster Grisselda is back and she’s hungry for unwanted (unopened) Halloween treats! 🍬🍫 But Grisselda isn’t greedy, she shares the candy with our RE staff. And this year, with enough donations, she will create sweet care packages for our first responders! 🚒🚓 Our local fire and police departments will get a fun little box of treats that YOU helped fill. Grisselda will be in the main office today until Monday, November 10th, when we will split the donations to our staff and first responders. If you’d like to send in cards/notes of gratitude, we will gladly collect and pass along with the candy.

Thank you in advance!

Parent Tip of the Week: GROW – Building Accountability

At Riverview, growth means helping students take ownership of their learning, choices, and actions. Accountability is a key part of that process. When students learn to reflect on their progress, take responsibility for mistakes, and make plans to improve, they develop confidence and independence that will serve them for life.

How Families Can Help This Week:
Encourage your child to take responsibility for one daily task — like packing their backpack, managing homework, or setting a goal for the week. At the end of the day, talk about what went well and what they might do differently next time. Small moments of reflection build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth.

💛 World Kindness Day – November 13th 💛 💛 World Kindness Day – November 13th 💛

Next week, Riverview will join people around the world in celebrating World Kindness Day! This day reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference. To celebrate, we invite all students and staff to wear a cardigan or the color yellow in honor of Mr. Rogers, one of the kindest neighbors we know!

Let’s encourage our Falcons to:
🌟 Say something kind to a friend or teacher.
🌟 Help someone in need.
🌟 Show gratitude.
🌟 Spread smiles throughout the day!

Together, we can fill our school with kindness — one small act at a time.

“Kindness is free, sprinkle it everywhere.” 💛

Fall Weather Reminder Fall Weather Reminder

Fall weather is finally here and as we all know, it can be a bit unpredictable! Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately and prepared for arrival, dismissal, and outdoor recess. As temperatures drop, they may want to keep a sweatshirt at school in case their classroom feels chilly.

It’s also a great time to label coats, hats, and gloves, and remind students to check the Lost & Found if anything has gone missing. Staying prepared helps everyone stay comfortable and ready to enjoy the day!

Attendance & Punctuality Reminders Attendance & Punctuality Reminders

  • Our doors open for students at 8:30 AM, and classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:45 AM.
  • Please help remind your child to be in their seat and ready to learn by 8:45—every minute counts, and there is so much exciting learning to be done each day!
  • If your child will be absent, please notify both the office and their classroom teacher. Consistent attendance and on-time arrivals help set students up for success.

Connect, Align, Grow Connect, Align, Grow

At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.

  • Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

  • Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.

  • Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.

Each week, we’ll share a simple way you can support these goals at home and in the community.

Nurse Information Nurse Information

We have wonderful nurses available in our front office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:

  • Drop off medications or medication orders

  • Inform us of any new health conditions

  • Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)

  • Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)

We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.

If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Nancy Tausz – ntausz@usd232.org

Visitor Management System Visitor Management System

Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Riverview will continue using the Centegix Visitor Management System this year, following district safety guidelines. All visitors must check in through the office with a valid photo ID. The ID will be scanned into the system and a visitor sticker with your photo will be printed. This sticker must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.

For the safety of everyone, no visitor will be allowed in the building without a valid ID. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to maintain a secure learning environment for our Falcons.

Arrival/Dismissal Arrival/Dismissal

Car Loop Reminder

Please remember to have your student’s name clearly displayed during car loop pick-up. Since staff members rotate and substitutes occasionally cover, having names visible before you pull up to the cones helps us quickly identify students and ensure they are ready when you arrive. This small step keeps the process running smoothly and efficiently for everyone. Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!

Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table! Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!

For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
