Congratulations Warriors!
Polar Plunge
A heartfelt thank you to our Warrior Family for supporting Special Olympics by donating to this year's Polar Plunge. It was a HUGE success! We exceeded last year's goal and raised over $2600, making WMS a "Coolest School" for the second year in a row! Now that's #WarriorPride!
All County Chorus
Congratulations to the following students for being selected to participate in All County Chorus. Students will work with a clinican on Monday and Tuesday before their 6 pm performance on Tuesday, February 11th, at Georgetown High School. Come out and support these talented singers!
Region Championship
From the Principal's Desk
I hope you all are doing well and getting ready for a fabulous February! I have a few opportunities to share with you and a calendar of dates for school-wide events and testing dates for you to put down in your calendar.
The weather is starting to heat up a little and we are seeing some longer legs than we did in the fall due to our growing kiddos. 🙂 Now would be a good time to check for appropriate length of shorts or skirts. As we all know the weather is inconsistent this time of year so please know that we will continue to go outside, weather permitting, so please have all students dress according to the temperature and know that the dress code appropriate for school is still in effect.
Upcoming Dates: Below is a list of upcoming dates that we know so far. I try to get this to you well in advance so plans can be made accordingly. GCSD voted to remove final exams for middle school general education classes but this does not include Algebra 1 EOC, English 1 HN and Fundamentals of Computing. More details will be available at a later time regarding these final exams. I cannot express to you how IMPORTANT it is for ALL students to be in attendance for the SC Ready State Assessment! This is a test to show the knowledge and growth of our students and it will impact our state report card either in a positive way or a negative way. Please don’t try and schedule trips on these dates. Please know that events and dates may be added but again I wanted to get out what we know now so plans can be made. More details to follow as time gets closer to each event.

Guidance News from Mrs. Williams
Job Shadowing
Job Shadowing Day is Friday, February 14th. If your child is interested in participating, please see the information and permission slip below, which is due on the 13th. Your student received a copy of this earlier in the week.
8th Grade IGP's
The South Carolina Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) requires middle schools to implement an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) for all 8th-grade students. I plan to begin the meeting process on February 3, 2025. During this meeting, we will be creating academic/career goals for your child and selecting their 9th-grade high school courses. It is strongly encouraged that a parent/guardian attends the meeting with their child so they can be involved in the high school planning process. To schedule the IGP meeting with your child, please visit https://calendly.com/kimwilliamswms/individualized-graduation-plan-meetings to book your in-person appointment with Mrs. K. Williams at Waccamaw Middle School. If you are open to discussing this with another 8th-grade student and parent in the same meeting, please coordinate times and sign up with both students' names during the same time slot.
On Tuesday your 8th grader met with the guidance counselors from WHS to learn about class options for 9th grade. They also received a list of available courses. Please review this list with your child and select the courses you would like prior to your scheduled IGP meeting, and bring it with you to the actual IGP meeting. This will save a lot of time in the actual meeting. If we are unable to schedule an IGP meeting together, I will meet with your child during their school day to select high school courses with them, but I would greatly appreciate your input in the selection of courses. All IGPs must be completed by Friday, April 11, 2025.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at kiwilliams@gcsd.k12.sc.us or 843-237-0106. I look forward to meeting with you and your child to help plan for their future.
