Across the district, students are participating in Innovation Hour, a program designed to foster innovative thinking and problem-solving skills. Students have already been introduced to the 6Ps of Innovation Hour and have successfully pitched their project ideas. Throughout November, students will be focused on developing and completing their projects. For additional details on Innovation Hour, please visit the GT department website or reach out to your campus COGS contact. The deadline for students to complete their projects is February 27, 2027.

Our GT students have moved into the project phase of the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP) following planning sessions with their teachers during October, and we're excited to see their research unfold over the coming months. It is critical to stress that for students in grades 1-8, TPSP is fundamentally a school-based research project, meaning the majority of the work is expected to be completed in a school setting rather than at home. Meanwhile, TPSP remains an optional opportunity for students in grades 9-12, and GT teachers will offer support for their projects outside of regular instructional time. We are already looking forward to the culmination of all this hard work at the campus showcases this spring, and parents should plan to check their respective campus web pages in early spring to find the specific presentation dates. All TPSP projects must be completed by February 27, 2027.

Fall Highlights from the QVMS Gifted & Talented Academy

This fall, our GTA students took their learning beyond the classroom with hands-on field experiences across all grade levels:

  • 6th Grade: Explored cultural foundations by visiting diverse Houston-area houses of worship, and put their novel studies on the refugee experience into action by organizing 36 baskets of supplies for International Faith Ministries.

  • 7th Grade: Studied Texas history at Galveston’s Bryan Museumβ€”previewing their upcoming spring trip to San Antonioβ€”and practiced paper map orienteering among the East End’s iconic tree sculptures.

  • 8th Grade: Launched Manifest the Change, a yearlong community service initiative culminating in April, and explored DΓa de los Muertos traditions firsthand during a workshop at Houston's MECA Cultural Center.
