VETERANS DAY
Dear Families,
Mrs. Desforges' class is planning a Morning Meeting to honor United States Veterans of the Armed Forces with ties to Lothrop School on Friday, November 7. If you or a family member are a Veteran and in the area on that day we would like to invite you to our program. It is special to have community members present!
We have a growing collection of pictures of Veterans and would love to update it to include Veterans in all Lopthrop families. Please email mdesforges@rnesu.org a picture of your veteran (candid or portrait accepted) and any basic service details you can provide by November 2. Here is an example: "Sergeant Nicholas Whitman, Marine, Mrs. Desforgesâ brother." If you have submitted in the past and you still have students at Lothrop, your picture is already included. Thank you for helping Lothrop honor Veterans on Veterans' Day.
Pittsford Christmas for Kids
Pittsford Christmas for Kids is a community program that provides gifts for children in families that may need some help financing the holidays. These can be families that may have no celebration without help, may need some help or could just use a little extra for their children.
After referrals are received a letter is sent to the families to see if they would like help. If they respond, tags are created with the child's wants and needs and community members choose tags to sponsor. The list and the children's names are confidential.
If your family or a family that you know may need help this year, please CLICK HERE. Thank you.
Lothrop's Halloween Parade
Lothrop will be hosting an all school Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31st at 10:30 am. Please note that this is an Early Release Day and all students will be dismissed at 11:30 am.
Students will line up by class on the blacktop (behind the school) and walk down through the playground onto Pleasant St. They will turn onto Arch St. and turn around at The Manor before heading back to Lothrop. Please read the following guidelines regarding costumes, where families can stand to watch the parade and pick-up. Thank you!
- Pick Up (Updated Information): If you wish to pick up your child after the parade, please send a note in the morning that your child will be a car rider or walker that day. After the parade, please join the car pick up line in the lower lot if your child is a car rider or join other walking families at the sidewalk in the lower lot or up at the white fence at the school.
- Parking (Updated Information): Before and during the parade, you may park in the lower lot, on Cross Street, on Mechanic Ave or behind the firehouse. You may also park at the Historical Society or at Furnace Brook Church. Please do not park in the upper lot because you will be trapped by the buses.
No Masks: The reason for this is that Halloween masks often cover the eyes of a child, impeding their vision and causing a potentially unsafe situation. So, please do not send any parts of a costume that cover eye areas, such as a "Halloween Mask."
Costumes: Costumes must not include weapons, blood, or gore. They must be school-appropriate and consider that we will have children in grades K-6 participating. Should learners wish to dress up and need help finding a costume, please let your child's teacher, or the front office know as soon as you are able. Blow-up costumes tend to deflate making it difficult to walk in the parade and should not cover up a student's face impeding vision.
Footwear: Please consider your child's footwear choice as we will march over Pleasant Street and up Arch Street, a little bit of a hike if one is in high heel shoes.
Where to watch: Families may view the parade from Pleasant Street and Arch Street. (We will help children with costumes-eliciting our Middle-Level students who will enjoy helping our Littles).
Snacks: Classrooms will be given guidance on snacks for the day and that information will come home in classroom newsletters.
Household Income Form
The Household Income Form (HIF) is a helpful tool to collect household income data when National School Lunch Program information is not available for a student. These data are used for a variety of educational purposes including calculation of pupil weights in the school funding formula, determination of eligibility for other household benefits such as affordable connectivity (internet) benefits and educator loan forgiveness qualification.
The Household Income Form is provided in both a PDF format and an online format. Both versions address FAQs such as: which form to use under which circumstances and how to report income status in data collections are available on the Household Income Form webpage. In addition, the Agency of Education has provided LEAs with âFill the Formâ materials for parent communication to encourage families to complete these forms. Data Town Hall meetings were held in early Spring and late Summer with registrars, business managers and data managers present. The agenda covered the purpose of the Household Income From, reviewed the forms, and reviewed the process of managing and reporting the household income data. For further information, please reach out to your SU Data Manager or email Jamie.Jarvis@vermont.gov.
News from the Integrated Arts Team
Art Room Update from Mr. Matt
Itâs been a busy and creative time in the Art Room! Our kindergarten artists have been exploring pumpkinsâdrawing them, decorating them, and even designing their own friendly jack-oâ-lantern faces. In 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, students have been bringing paper dragons to life, and a few of these colorful creatures can be seen flying proudly on display at Lothrop. Our 4th graders have been designing their own Coats of Arms to go along with their Medieval Times unit, showing great care and imagination. Meanwhile, 5th and 6th graders have been learning about light and shadow as they work on beautiful still life drawings. Each project reminds us how wonderful it is to see creativity grow in every student.
