The Weekly Words
January 25, 2026
At Noble Elementary, we believe that every student has the right to learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. We also believe that every student has the power to make positive choices, learn from mistakes, and become stronger leaders in our school community. Noble Elementary empowers all students for college and career readiness through AVID’s schoolwide focus on WICOR, student success skills, and a growth mindset.
Over the past few weeks, it has been inspiring to see our students celebrate their stretch growth on MAP assessments. MAP continues to serve as a strong leading indicator of student performance on the OST and, in our primary grades, has provided especially valuable insight to guide math instruction. This photo from one of our celebrations captures the spirit, energy, and pride our students feel as they work toward, and achieve, their goals!

Heavy Lifting
Team,
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
As we move closer to the OST and EOY testing, in general, let’s continue to push ourselves to place the heavy lifting on our students, creating learning experiences that stretch their thinking, invite questioning, and deepen understanding. This is how we develop well-rounded students who are prepared to make a difference in the world.
As we prepare for Data Day tomorrow, we invite you to take a moment to reflect: What is one intentional shift you are making (or plan to make) to place more of the cognitive “heavy lifting” on students, either in preparation for OST or to generally deepen student thinking and independence in your daily instruction?
Please reply with your reflection. All responses will be entered into this week’s Weekly Words raffle for a breakfast treat as a thank-you for your thoughtful engagement.
Mr. Walker, M.Ed.
Principal
From the Assistant Principal's Desk
Hi team,
Last week at Noble, we continued to see strong consistency around expectations and positive behavior. Two referrals were issued this week (168 total), along with nine lunchtime pink slips (142 total) and 15 support calls. Staff also awarded 374 Dojo Points for students demonstrating Kind, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behaviors, 190 points for 2x Tuesday, and 327 points for being on time.
A few reminders as we head into this week: Please check the Daily Discipline Log each morning. When students are assigned to ALC, ensure they arrive with meaningful work to stay engaged. If support is needed, connect with Ms. Patton. Staff submitting referrals are expected to contact families the same day and log the communication in PLP.
The Sensory Break schedule has been updated and is available for review. Most breaks will be provided by the lunch team. If a break is missed due to an absence, please provide an in-class sensory break. Recess decisions will be shared in the Morning Minute each day, with our general outdoor threshold set at a 20-degree “feels like” temperature. Any changes will be announced over the PA. Our building’s average daily attendance is 93.6%. Chronic absenteeism has risen to 20.1%, so please continue reaching out to students who have missed more than 8% of the school year as we work to improve attendance moving into February.

Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Bruce
Mrs. Bruce is a proud graduate of the Cleveland Heights–University Heights schools, having attended Belvoir Elementary (now Gearity) and Wiley Middle School before graduating in 1996. She has spent the past 23 years teaching second and third grade at Noble Elementary, bringing dedication, experience, and a love of learning to her students every day. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree and Pre-K–3 teaching certification from Cleveland State University and later returned to CSU to complete her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two college-aged children, as well as connecting with family and friends at the beach, at basketball games, or exploring new restaurants.
Mrs. Bruce has a passion for the fall season, especially anything pumpkin (except pie). Her favorite color is green, and she enjoys scary movies, true crime shows, and Mexican food. She loves coffee, ice cream, and Snickers, and you’ll often find her relaxing with Netflix, shopping on Amazon, or browsing Marshalls for a great find. She also enjoys working out, reading, and traveling whenever she gets the chance, always making time for the things that bring her joy.

Pre-K Gym Equipment
Over the course of the last several days, some of the Pre-K gym equipment was damaged and broken. This is a result of our K-5 students using the equipment during lunch and recess. Note that the Pre-K equipment is made for bodies of small children (ages 3-5) and is not suitable for K-5 students. There is now signage on the Pre-K items. Our lunch monitors have been notified. Please help us as classroom teachers to reinforce the message. Please steer clear of the Pre-K Gym items as they are not safe for K-5 students to use. Please do not allow your students to touch or use these items.
Community Resource Fair
The MetroHealth school-based clinic at Heights High facilitates a Youth Advisory Council (YAC) made up of Heights High School students. This group works throughout the school year to identify social issues impacting our community and to develop meaningful, student-led solutions.
This year, our Youth Advisory Council is organizing a Community Resource Fair designed to help Heights families access resources and information that can support their health, education, and ETC. and overall well-being. The event will be open to CH-UH students and their families during the school day, and later in the afternoon we will open it to the broader community so additional families can benefit from the available resources.
We would greatly appreciate your support in helping us promote this event by:
Including the attached flyer in your class newsletters to families, and
posting to Dojo class stories

Missing School Pictures
Several students do not yet have a self-portrait in Infinite Campus. Having a student photo is critical for several reasons: it helps staff and substitutes quickly and accurately identify students, ensures student safety, and fosters a sense of connection within our school community.
To address this, please review your class rosters in Infinite Campus. Using the spreadsheet provided, open your grade-level tab and list the first and last names of any students who do not yet have a self-portrait. Once all names are collected, we will schedule a time to photograph these students and upload their photos to Infinite Campus.
TAP Form
This year, you will continue to submit your Noble TAP concerns using a secure Google Form. You may be asked to include your name, which will be visible only to Daniel Hershman-Rossi and Kimberly Holyk, our 795 Building Stewards.
If you prefer to remain anonymous, simply indicate this in your submission. However, please keep in mind that providing your name allows for more effective follow-up and resolution of your concern. Thank you for your attention to this process. Please be on the lookout for the updated form below.

Zearn Resources
A big shout-out to Mrs. Holyk and Mrs. Salvatore for serving as strong Zearn coaches for the building! Their thoughtful work supporting teachers with Zearn—especially through data-driven planning, shared modeling, and organized resources—continues to strengthen math instruction across classrooms. Using MAP data to intentionally direct Zearn missions and modeling expectations before independent work are powerful moves that support both clarity and student success. Thank you both for your leadership, collaboration, and commitment to helping teachers and students grow!
Below are some helpful Zearn resources to keep students engaged and motivated!
