Hembree Highlights

Greetings Hembree Families!

We are officially in May and entering the final stretch of the 2025–2026 school year! It has been a very busy and exciting week here at Hembree.

On Tuesday, our kindergarten classes celebrated their annual Book Publishing Party. Each child researched an animal and wrote a page highlighting their findings. All of the pages and illustrations were compiled into a class book, and our kindergarten parents joined us to celebrate this special accomplishment. It was such a joy to see the pride on our kindergarteners’ faces as the pages were read aloud and each child was recognized. Way to go, kindergarten, for making this such a memorable event!

Thank you to our amazing PTA for providing donuts for our students in grades 3–5 so they could “Donut Stress About the Test.” The students were thrilled, and the treats were greatly appreciated. Thank you also to our amazing PTA for providing the staff lunch today from Jason's Deli. It was very yummy and thoughtful!

Speaking of testing, our students are doing an outstanding job. They are taking their time and remaining calm, and I am so very proud of them for persevering and giving their very best effort. Next week, students will take the math and science portions of the Georgia Milestones. Please continue to partner with us by ensuring your child gets a good night’s rest and arrives at school on time. We will take care of the rest.

Hembree Springs will undergo major renovations this summer. All staff will vacate the building by Friday, May 22, at 4:00 p.m. Our administrative staff will be working out of Vickery Mill Elementary School over the summer should you need to meet with any of us.

On a personal note, I am looking forward to visiting my daughter in Athens on Sunday. She remained in Athens after graduating from UGA in 2024, and I miss her every day.

Today we’re celebrating our amazing principal, Ms. Nancy Lahey, for everything she does to support our students, staff, and school community. We’re so grateful for your leadership, love, care and professionalism you bring to Hembree Springs every single day.

1. Our Hawks got a sweet surprise earlier this week! 🍩

The PTA treated all 3rd–5th grade students to donuts from Krispy Kreme to kick off Georgia Milestones testing week. With 22 dozen donuts shared, we hope it reminded our students: Donut stress the test — just do your best and soar high!

We are rooting for each one of you. You’ve got this, Hawks!

2. To help with preparation and Milestones testing, your PTA is supplying the teachers' lounge with lots of food and beverages! Our PTA also provided a delicious Jason's Deli lunch to keep everyone fueled!

🍦Blizzards, Dipped cones, hotdogs- Oh My! Wednesday, May 13th, is Spirit Night at Dairy Queen! Come support our school by getting dinner, a sweet cool treat, or both!! HSE will receive 20% of all sales from 5 to 8 p.m.

Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. Each week the PE department will choose 4 All Star Athletes (2 students & 2 staff members). If your student enjoys hiking, swimming, baseball, softball, football, biking, etc. Please email a picture to marzetti@fultonschools.org.
