Irving -

Our Irving girls basketball team, led by Mr. Haar, has been working hard this season. The team is currently 1–2, and it has been great to see the effort and teamwork our students are showing on the court. They have two games this week — Monday at Komensky and Thursday at home against Piper. If you are able, come out and cheer them on!

This is also a good time to share a reminder about our arrival and drop-off procedures to help keep everyone safe and traffic moving smoothly.

First and foremost, cars should never be left unattended in the bus or drop-off lane. If you need to get out of your car, please park legally on a nearby street and walk over. Similarly, if you would like to watch your child on the blacktop area before school but prefer to stay in your car, please park on a street rather than waiting in the bus lane.

Please remember that our blacktop area is supervised by staff beginning at 8:15 AM. Students should not be dropped off before that time. Parents are welcome to come early and be outside with their child before 8:15 if they would like to play on the blacktop together.

Irving School experiences heavy traffic during arrival and dismissal. Parking is limited, and our streets are crowded with students and adults. Arriving a little early can help make the process safer and more efficient for everyone.

Please refer to the photo below for our drop-off and pick-up procedures. It is essential that families use the 35th Street bus lane for quick drop-off/pick-up or park legally and walk students to their designated lines. Always cross the street at marked crosswalks with a crossing guard. Students should never cross in the middle of the street.

When using the bus lane for drop-off or pick-up, please follow these guidelines:

  • Direction: 35th Street is one-way eastbound from Clinton Avenue to Kenilworth Avenue. Please obey all signs and markings.

  • Drop-off/Pick-up: Pull into the furthest available eastbound spot on 35th Street to allow students to exit or enter the vehicle.

  • Student Readiness: Students should be ready to exit or enter the car immediately upon stopping.

  • Walking Students: Adults cannot park in the bus lane to walk students to their lines. Please park your vehicle if you need to accompany your child.

  • School Buses: School buses load and unload at the west end of the drop-off/pick-up area.

Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures. Your efforts help keep all of our students and families safe.

Finally, please don’t forget to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey is now open for parents and students. All 4th and 5th grade students will complete the survey at school with their classmates. We are asking for your help in reaching at least a 20% parent response rate. We carefully review this data each year, and it plays an important role in guiding our school improvement efforts and priorities.

To take the survey, please visit: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.
