Supporting Your Reader at Home
- Set a daily reading time that works for your family (before bed, after homework, or during a quiet afternoon moment).
- Talk with your child about what they are reading. Ask simple questions: What happened first? Who is your favorite character and why? What surprised you? Spend 5–10 minutes after reading to discuss the story. Your conversation supports comprehension and builds critical thinking skills.
- Make reading cozy and interruption-free.
- Let students read aloud when possible — it helps with fluency.
- Share your own thinking aloud so children see how adults process stories.
