The new year has kicked off with a busy and successful start for the Boys Varsity Basketball team. Coming off their break feeling rested and ready, the boys played three games in five days, securing two wins.

Away Game on Tuesday, January 7th against Holy Family
The boys showed no signs of rust from the break, putting forth a strong effort in this away matchup.

Home Game on Friday, January 10th against Horizon
In a challenging game, the YOTES faced a fast-starting Horizon team that leveraged its height and size advantage, disrupting Monarch’s offense. Despite these challenges, Logan Laverty shined, scoring an impressive 34 points, though the team ultimately fell short in securing the win.

Home Game on Saturday, January 11th against Heritage
With a quick turnaround, the boys hosted Heritage on Saturday morning. What a difference a day makes! They came out strong, making shot after shot to build a 14-point lead in the first half. This game showcased the most balanced offensive attack of the season, with Ryder Hutton leading all scorers with 19 points, followed closely by Logan Laverty with 18 points, Riley Montemayor with 14, Dylan Ehrnstrom with 13, and Liam Sousa contributing 7 points.

The Monarch girls' basketball program has kicked off the new year and league play with an impressive start, featuring two victories for the varsity team and notable progress from the JV squad!

Both teams ventured to Holy Family to face off against the Tigers on Tuesday night. The JV team showed great determination and fought hard, but ultimately fell to a skilled Holy Family squad in their first game of the week.

Facing a challenging matchup, the MOHI varsity girls' basketball team entered the game against Holy Family eager to prove themselves. They came out strong, quickly building a significant lead right from the tip-off. Maintaining their intensity throughout all four quarters, they dominated a team that was favored to win. With a remarkable team effort, highlighted by Sienna Williams’s stellar performance of 20 points, 23 rebounds, and 8 blocks, the Monarch girls secured a decisive victory, defeating Holy Family 47-38.

Last Friday marked the first home game of league play, where Monarch hosted Horizon. Perhaps feeling the fatigue of returning from Winter Break, the varsity squad started with a sluggish first quarter, trailing 2-11. However, the next three quarters showcased the hard work and growth this team has achieved this season. After losing to Horizon just a month ago, the MOHI squad was determined not to repeat that outcome. Trusting their game plan and relying on one another, they collectively rallied to a second league win, triumphing over Horizon 47-32.

The growth and resilience of the Monarch girls' basketball program are also evident in the JV team. While still seeking their first win, their improvement in skills and teamwork shines through in every game. Although they fell to Horizon on Friday, the JV girls continue to show up with grit and determination. We witness their mini victories each week, which give us hope that a big win is on the horizon

.Exciting matchups await in the coming week! Come cheer on our Monarch girls' basketball program as they host the strong Mead team on Tuesday, January 14, with JV tip-off at 4:00 PM and varsity at 5:30 PM.

Additionally, let’s show our support at Erie High School on Friday night, January 17, where our girls will battle on the visitor's court, with JV tip-off at 4:00 PM and varsity at 5:30 PM.
