Deerfield Elementary School
April 2023
Greetings from the Office!
Spring has Sprung!! The playground will be a mucky mess, so boots would still be appropriate at recess time.
We have many different events that are coming up so please pay attention to communication from the school.
Information regarding summer school classes will be coming out in May. Session A is June 12-30 and Session B is July 10-21.
Please don't hesitate to contact the DES office at 764-5442 from 7:30-3:30 with any questions you may have or email me kamrathm@deerfield.k12.wi.us.

5 year Old Kindergarten Registration
5 year old Kindergarten registration, will take place on Thursday, April 13th. It gives parents and students a chance to meet the 5 year old Kindergarten teachers and learn more about our 5 year old Kindergarten programming. Parents may sign up for a registration time by calling the elementary office (764-5442). The times available are 5:30 or 6:15 p.m.and the presentation will take approximately ½ hour.
This event was re-scheduled due to snow. Please attend at the time that you signed up for in March.
Here is what is happening in Kindergarten!
Kindergarten has been busy!!! We celebrated our 100th day of school with a fashion show and fun 100th day activities. We have enjoyed getting to know our 4th grade buddies while sharing stories, playing games, and even hot chocolate!
Kindergarten students have also been learning to become strong readers. We have learned 60+ high frequency words, built our reading stamina, and even studied zoology and ecology. Our math skills continue to flourish, working on adding and subtracting, teen numbers, and partners of 10.
Hard to believe we only have April and May left in kindergarten! We will end our year studying the wonderful world of entomology, which leads itself into spring and summer!!
HERE IS WHAT IS HAPPENING IN 4K!!
We have been having a lot of 4K fun lately! Since the very first day of school we have been counting our school days and recently had a blast celebrating our 100th day of 4K. This past month we learned about Dinosaurs and "St. Patrick's Day". During our dinosaur unit we even "hatched" dinosaurs and last week a tricky leprechaun visited us and left us a gold coin surprise!
4K students are working hard at learning the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make. They have also been doing a great job at writing their names.
In April we will be learning about "Spring" and "Plants". We will be having a fun parent event called the "Spring Sing and Fling", where we will sing songs and make fun spring craft projects. In May we will wrap up our fun year in 4K with a field trip to the Explore Children's Museum of Sun Prairie.
