Wiggin Street Parent Update

Dear Families,

What a week! We are so happy to see the kids back today. We are also incredibly appreciative of the hard work put in by the MVCSD maintenance team and our own Chopper for clearing the snow so we could safely return to school.

Next week marks the start of our Read-a-thon Spirit Week! We are asking staff and students to wear their W Book shirt, which was purchased for everyone by our Friends of Wiggin Street last school year. New students and Kindergarten students should have received a new shirt this year. If your child is unable to find theirs, they may wear any Wiggin Street spirit wear.

Monday will also be Mystery Reader Day—a favorite tradition where teachers switch classrooms to read with each other’s students. Please note that all pledge envelopes and reading logs are due Monday, February 9th.

Please make sure that you send your students with coats, gloves, hats, and boots next week. If the weather feels like 20 degrees at any point, we will be going outside. Also, the snow will be staying around awhile, so we may get out to go sledding. If so, students will need a large black trash bag and extra clothes and/or snow pants and boots.

The lunch menu has changed for next week, and Mrs. Higgins created a nice visual calendar for you. This will take the place of the original menu displayed at the bottom of this update.

Lastly, don’t forget to order your 2025–26 Yearbook—today is the final day to place an order.

As students in grades 3-5 prepare for Ohio State Tests that will take place in April, it is always helpful for parents to understand the expectations for their child. This site offers families a practice test and information to better familiarize themselves with the tests.

Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.
