A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Families and Supporters,

We hope you are enjoying 2023 this far! As we plan the rest of the school year, I would like to plan an evening of reflection and conversation with families. The title of this discussion will be "RES 101." During this time, I will plan to share with you the accomplishments of the year, thus far, as well as educate families on our "next steps" and common language we use at school each day. I would LOVE to have some feedback on topics you might find helpful. I want to cover as much as possible and know there might be questions and education that might be covered if I know your questions ahead of time. Thank you for your consideration!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Warmly,

Michelle Pitts

Handle with Care

This "Handle with Care" idea was brought to Mrs. Arsenault and Mrs. Pitts by Mrs. Woodhouse! This is a support for students who may need a little extra care based on a tough morning at home or a situation that might be taking up a student's brain space (as we say). Please feel free to print this (the template will be in the "Important Links" section at the top from now on) and send to school if you feel your child might need some extra care on a given day!

Welcome Iris Ross

Hello RES Families! I am excited to share that the Counseling Office will have an extra smile to share with your kiddos throughout the month of January!

Iris Ross is a freshman at Endicott College. She is pursuing a career in education, and as a part of her program, she is required to explore all areas of this field. I have convinced - I mean, inspired 🙂- her to check out School Counseling! Iris will be engaging with students and staff on a regular basis during recess, lunch, classroom lessons and social lunch bunches. As her direct supervisor, I will be overseeing and working alongside her during these interactions.

I encourage you to reach out to me or to Michelle Pitts if you have any questions or concerns. The goal for this month is to expose this future educator to the career and offer insight into the role a School Counselor has in working with students, staff and in a large way, families! Please feel free to say hi when you’re in the building or if you see Iris at arrival or dismissal. She is a responsible and passionate student, and I am so excited to watch her grow!

Seltzer

We wanted to ask a question to our family community. We have been offering seltzer at lunch and have found that many students are not finishing them. I have read the notes regarding the implementation of seltzers in the cafeteria. We have learned that the cans cannot come back to class for a few reasons, including the fact that they cannot be resealed and can damage devices and student work. I am just gathering information on the need to continue having seltzers offered during lunch as water can be resealed and brought back if unfinished. Thank you for any information you can provide!

Ski Club Has Started!

Today, Mrs. Pitts experienced her first day of ski and snowboard club. This is a collection of the gear and we are thankful to the families who brought the equipment inside and organized it for us. Have fun today to all those who are embarking on this adventure!

Makeover Room

Some have asked how they can help us to spruce up our summer working/professional development/conference room. We wanted to send a picture so families could see some of the space. We are hoping to bring some color, artwork, pictures and more into this area so teachers from Rye and other visiting teachers and family members have a serene and colorful space to learn and talk.
