Dear Hardy Families,

One week to go, Owls!

The first day of school is almost here — we can’t wait to welcome you back on Monday, August 10!

This Wednesday, August 5th, from 4 to 6 PM, join us for a TK and Kindergarten playdate at Princess Del Cerro Park. Then on Friday, August 7th, we have two exciting events: TK and Kindergarten Signing Day and Orientation at 10 AM in the Hardy auditorium, and our Grades 1 through 5 Popsicle Party from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, where students can walk and explore campus. Unfortunately, our new play structures are going through final inspections this weekend and won't be open on Friday; we'll be able to play on them soon! Also on Friday at noon, classroom placements will be available on PowerSchool.

A few important reminders: due to Whole Site Modernization, there is no parking available at Hardy Elementary; the campus is for student drop-off only. Please register your vehicle for free parking in the SDSU P7 garage, valid Friday, August 7th, and Monday, August 10th, from 7 to 9 AM. Registration is required in advance, so please don't wait.

For drop-off and pick-up: TK and Kindergarten families will use the outside lane, which gives our staff extra time to help with 5-point harnesses and car seats. Families with students in grades 1 through 5 will use the inside lane. If you have a TK or Kindergarten student along with an older sibling, please exit the vehicle together and walk to the TK/K gate.

Be sure to arrive early on the first day of school for first-day magic, photo opportunities, and more.

For full details, check your email for this week's Hardy Happenings newsletter. We can't wait to see you soon!

With gratitude and Owl pride,

Mrs. Aragon

Drop-off & Pick-up Procedures

For drop-off and pick-up: all TK/K families will be funneled into the outside lane of the turnaround in the new parking lot, which automatically places you in the TK/K loading zone. This gives our staff more time to help with 5-point harness car seats. At no time should you exit your vehicle in this lane.

Families with a 1st–5th grader who has a TK/K sibling should exit the vehicle together and go to the TK/K gate at drop-off and pick-up.

All other traffic will use the inside lane of the turnaround. Students will be gathered near the front of the school and called to your car as you approach.

Please help us keep things moving: in the morning, have your child ready with shoes on, backpack packed, and prepared to exit the car quickly. At pick-up, we'll load as fast as possible; your promptness helps reduce traffic and speeds things up for all families.

A Note About Mr. Lerma

I want to share with you that our beloved Mr. Lerma has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and will be taking a medical leave of absence for the first part of the school year, returning no earlier than January. He is in great spirits, surrounded by tremendous love and support, and has an excellent prognosis. He has asked me to pass along his warmth and gratitude to our Hardy community. Please keep him in your thoughts as he focuses on his health. We will share updates as appropriate and will ensure a wonderful experience for his students in his absence.

Back to School Information

Teacher assignments will be viewable in the PowerSchool Parent Portal starting Friday, August 7, at noon; the portal won't be live before then. Your child will also receive a welcome email from their teacher by 2:30 PM that day. Note that class lists will not be posted, so PowerSchool is the place to check. If you haven't set up your Parent Portal account yet, the front office is happy to help once the portal goes live at noon on Friday.

Important Information

  • First Day of School: Monday, August 10
  • School Hours: 7:45 AM - 2:10 PM (Wednesdays: 11:55 AM dismissal)
    • TK/K Minimum Days for the first week: 11:55 AM
  • Drop-off: Begins at 7:20 AM. Students enter through the main gate and head to the lunch area. Please do not drop off your child prior to 7:20.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch are provided daily at no cost. Breakfast is served until 7:40 AM. Students may bring a labeled lunch from home
  • Water Bottles: Students are encouraged to bring a labeled water bottle each day

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • Please refer to the photo below to see the traffic flow.
  • Hardy has major traffic concerns during Whole Site Modernization (WSM). Please leave early, observe all traffic laws, and drive slowly — children are present and always watching and listening. Thank you for your kindness and patience in the car line!
  • Families are welcome on campus for morning drop-off on the first day of school. Due to Whole Site Modernization, there is no on-campus parking available for the 2026-27 school year. If you'd like to park and walk your child in on the first day, you must register your car for the P7 lot at SDSU — free parking valid only on Monday, August 10, from 7-9 AM. Click the link to register your vehicle.
  • After the first day, Hardy is a closed campus, meaning only students may enter through the gates in the morning. Families are welcome to volunteer on campus, but must check in at the front office and be an approved volunteer.

TK & Kindergarten Orientation

  • Our TK and Kindergarten teachers invite all families to attend orientation on Friday, August 7, from 10 AM to 12 PM. We will start in the auditorium. Students can participate in "TK/K Signing Day," where they will sign their name and stamp their fingerprint on official Hardy letterhead, making them a part of our team. You'll get to keep this sweet memory forever.

First Day of School

On Monday, August 10, the front gate opens at 7:25 AM. Students will gather in the courtyard — please refer to your teacher's welcome letter for details on where to meet. Their welcome letter will be sent on Friday, August 7.

  • Before the first bell, teachers will be at their "welcome locations" around campus, then head to their classrooms at 7:40 AM.
  • At 7:45 AM, teachers will lead students into class.
  • Families are welcome in classrooms for a short time on the first day only. After that, we ask that hugs and kisses happen before drop-off.

Helpful tip for drop-off success: The easiest way to help your child build independence is with a short, confident goodbye. Lingering can actually make the transition harder. A calm, loving farewell gives your child the reassurance they need to start their day strong.

Principal Chat: We will have our first Principal Chat directly after drop-off in the Auditorium. Come meet our Hardy PTA & Dad's Club board members, join our PTA, fill out our volunteer survey, and connect with other families. This is a great way to learn about the many ways we can support our students and staff. There's something for everyone, and we'd love to have your support!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year together. I know you have many choices for an elementary school, and I am thrilled that your family has chosen Hardy!

If you haven't already, please review the FAQ sheet for helpful back-to-school information.
