A Note from the Principal
Day 122/180
This afternoon and evening are Parent Conferences. I encourage you to sign up, even if you have not already done so. The partnership between home and school is essential to your child’s success, and we always aim for 100 percent participation.
On Sunday, the reading portion of this year’s Read-a-thon officially came to an end. Since then, PTO members have been working around the clock to tally minutes and funds raised as we prepare for our annual Read-a-thon Wrap Up assembly tomorrow. I want to send a huge shout out to PTO volunteers Deb Irby, Kim Panetta, Jill Mansfield-Jollin, Katie Barclay, and Bea Rock for coordinating this year’s Read-a-thon. Their tireless work is much appreciated by all of us at the Jacobs. The big questions remain: Did we reach our schoolwide reading goal? Our fundraising goal? Will the Reading Pirate make an appearance? We will find out very soon. Thank you all for your generosity and support. Ultimately, we hope this year’s Read-a-thon sparked a true passion for reading in your child.
We have accumulated a TREMENDOUS amount of clothing in our Lost & Found this winter season, including some really nice (expensive) jackets, sweatshirts, and water bottles. As you know in your own homes, kids leave their stuff anywhere and everywhere! If you haven't seen something in a while, it might be in the Lost & Found. All items will be displayed in the foyer during Parent Conferences. Please take a few minutes to look through the racks and racks of clothing. Any unclaimed items will be donated Friday morning.
Lastly, MCAS season begins on Tuesday, with our fourth and fifth graders leading the way. Along with the fun and excitement that comes with our MCAS “Game Plan,” we also have high expectations and confidence that this year’s results will reflect the hard work and growth of our students.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. It is what makes the Jacobs School such a special place for our students to learn and grow each day.
-Mr. Shaw

Notes From The Nurse
Mrs. Yakubian says...
We have certainly seen an uptick in illness over the past week. Please continue to practice these
measures in order to protect yourselves and others.
- Keep your child home if he/she is ill, and/or has a fever of 100 degrees or higher.
- Temperature should remain normal for 24 hours without medication before the child returns to school.
- Children should remain home for a full 24 hours after vomiting.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, or cough into your elbow.
- Do not share drinks or other items that touch the mouth.
- Avoid social gatherings if you or your children are ill.
- Contact your healthcare provider if you believe your child needs medical care.
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, especially if someone in your household is ill.

Children's Author Josh Funk to Visit JES!
We are excited to share that the PTO is funding an author visit with children’s author Josh Funk for our K–5 students on Monday March 30th. His presentation will help make reading and writing feel real, exciting, and possible for children as he shares his own childhood writing, and shows students how authors brainstorm, revise, and persevere. Students will also take part in an interactive “Cooking Up Characters” activity that builds creativity and confidence. We know this special school-wide experience will inspire our students as readers and writers.
Students will have the opportunity to have books signed, if they bring one in. We have found the cheapest way to order is through amazon.
