EHE Connection
September 3, 2022
Greetings, Laker Families-
It was wonderful to see such a supportive turnout for the Back to School Night and the smiles were abundant! The positive energy and renewed sense of community and connection being displayed as families walked around our building on Thursday evening more deeply inspired our mission for our students, staff, and families this year…”Be Here…Be You…Belong.” We are so excited to welcome our 1st-5th grade students for the first day of school on Tuesday (9/6)! (Kindergarteners will start on Friday-9/9.)
If you will be driving your students to school, we thank you in advance for using the “car drop off loop” or the “walker drop-off/pick-up zone” to release your children to the supervision of our school staff. The Laker staff will ensure your children get safely to class.
Morning Drop Off...start times & reminders:
**Please have students remain in your vehicle or with you at the "walker drop off" location sign until the designated times when staff will be present to supervise. Students should exit the cars on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the curb. Thank you for your patience waiting in line as students are released from vehicles and for helping us ensure student safety!
Tues.-Fri. Student Day: 9:00-3:45 (drop off can begin at 8:45)
Monday Student Day (90-min late start day): 10:35-3:45 (drop off can begin at 10:20)
NOTE:
If you are dropping off your child in the front car loop, please review the procedures on the sheet that was handed to you with your car tags at Back to School Night. (I have also attached it to this newsletter below.) Please have your children learn their car tag number.
If you are still needing car tags, please let Mrs. Levy know when you are in the car drop off loop on Tuesday morning OR email your child’s teacher so they can ensure car tags are sent home with your child.
Pickup/Dismissal Procedures
Please review the Car Tag procedures attached below.
Cars form a single line behind the sandwich board in the car loop.
Dismissal will begin as soon as we have all pickup students staged in the gym (no later than 3:45)
Walker pick up – form a line on the sidewalk behind the sign & students will be released to parents with staff supervision when the bell rings at 3:45
If you ever have a change in dismissal plans for your child, please contact the main office by 3:00pm: (253) 891-4750.

Free and Reduced Meals (link) – apply for the 2022-23 school year to access services (school breakfast/lunch are NO longer free to all students) **More information on school meal service and loading money on accounts...link HERE.
School Supplies – how to pay the $25 supply donation
The School Supply information can be found on the SBLSD. Rather than have our families shop from a school supply list for the 2022-23 school year, we are asking Emerald Hills Elementary Families to contribute a $25 supply donation for each student to cover the cost of school supplies. All students should be prepared for school with a backpack, refillable water bottle, and lunchbox (if bringing lunch from home).
The $25 donation for supplies can be paid online via the district website. (If you are needing additional assistance with this process, please contact our office.) Instructions for Online Payment of the School Supply Donation of $25 can be found on the district website…LINK: Welcome Back to School (this will cover the school supplies for your student this year).

10/14 – No school (staff training day)
11/11 - Veterans Day

September is National Hispanic Heritage Month and our Laker Purposefull People Character Trait is “Respect…Seeing good in people and things and treating them with care.” Your follow up at home reinforcing your child as he/she demonstrates “respect” each day would be a wonderful home-school connection. The background for our Laker Purposefull People Character Traits can be accessed through the Character Strong website. Thank you for raising such amazing children that desire to be Purposefull People and for your continued support of our school community.
