Teacher Appreciation Week
Great America Permission Slips
8th Grade Families: The permission slips for the Great America Field Trip are due on May 18th. Please bring them to Ms. Trisha in the office.
Mental Health Awareness Week
Middle school is a rollercoaster, and some loops are harder than others. This week, we’re slowing things down to focus on what’s happening under the surface with Mental Health Awareness Week.
It all leads up to our 2nd Annual Mental Health Awareness Fair this Friday during lunch. Instead of the usual lunch rush, students can explore interactive booths, grab stress-relief resources, and learn that "it’s okay to not be okay."
The Daily Dress-Up Schedule
Encourage your child to participate and show their support! Here is how we’re dressing the part this week:
Cunha Artists Take Over Coastal Arts League Gallery
If you are looking for an activity that supports our local talent, head over to the Coastal Arts League Gallery. Our students have their work on display now through May 25th, and it is a must-see for families. The exhibit features artists from across the district, but we are especially proud of our Cunha students. Their hard work and unique perspectives are truly the stars of the show.
Check out the Cubs in Action section below for a sneak peek of the pieces on display.

Online Book Fair
We’re excited to invite you to shop our online Follett Book eFair from May 4-15 to May 15, 2026! This is a fun and easy way to purchase books your kids want to read while helping us grow our school and classroom libraries at Cunha Intermediate School.
Access to books at home makes a big difference for kids by improving reading skills, fostering a love of learning, and boosting confidence and overall well-being. By supporting our book fundraiser, you’ll discover great books your kids will love and support our school at the same time!
How it works:
· Shop Online: Browse a wide selection of affordable titles, from new releases to popular fiction and nonfiction. Don’t miss the Mega Sale section!
· Give Back: For every dollar spent, our school gets 20% back in credits to purchase books and resources from Follett Titlewave® for our school and classroom libraries.
· Wish Lists: Students can create personalized Wish Lists to share with family, friends, and everyone you know. These are perfect for birthdays, graduations, or just because!
· Free Shipping: All orders ship to our school for free after the online book fair ends. We’ll send them home with your child or you can pick them up at your convenience.
To purchase books or see what titles are available, visit book-efairs.follettcontent.com and enter our Book eFair Code: LDXLR
Books will be delivered in your student’s Language Arts class at the end of the online fair.
All sales benefit our school, so please help us spread the word! If you or a local business would like to donate to help students who might not otherwise be able to afford new books, please contact me at groverd@cabrillo.ca.us.
We’re very excited about this opportunity. Thank you for supporting our students and helping us build a strong reading culture at Manuel F. Cunha Intermediate School.
Cunha Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Updates
Thank you for donating to the Cunha PTO during Coastside Gives. We won our Power Hour and were awarded with an extra $1000! In total, over $5000 was raised.
Cunha Athletics Boosters (CAB) Updates
A massive thank you to everyone who showed up and donated during Coastside Gives! While we won’t have the final fundraising totals until next week, we already have some incredible news to share. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we officially won our shared Power Hour alongside the PTO! On top of that, the Cubs were lucky enough to snag a $100 Golden Ticket prize.
If you missed the excitement but still want to support our student-athletes, there is still time! Giving officially remains open through Monday night. Let’s keep that momentum going! https://www.coastsidegives.org/organization/CAB
