Dear BHMS Parents and Students,
We are officially past the one-month mark of the school year! It’s been wonderful to watch our students settling so beautifully into their routines, building strong connections with their teachers and peers, and engaging deeply with their learning.
We remain committed to ensuring every single student at Beacon Hill feels seen, supported, and successful each day. Thank you for your continued patience, partnership, and trust in us as we navigate this new school year together.
This newsletter is packed with updates on exciting student initiatives, upcoming testing, and wonderful community opportunities. Let's make it a great week!
Respectfully,
Alexis Glenn
Principal

Highlights & Horizons
6th Grade CogAT Testing Starts September 2
From September 2-4, all 6th-grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Unlike traditional achievement tests, which measure how well a student has learned the curriculum, the CogAT assesses a child’s ability to reason abstractly and recognize patterns and relationships in the world around them. Teachers can use CogAT scores to better understand a child’s pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Our school district also uses CogAT scores to screen for cognitively gifted students.
📰Student Journalism Stories
Direct from Dr. Boersma’s Journalism Class, our student reporters will be bringing you the inside scoop, behind-the-scenes coverage, and real stories on everything happening around BHMS.

School Chromebooks Introduce "Nightly Curfew" to Boost Student Wellness
BHMS announced that Chromebooks will shut off for all students at 9:30pm and then turn back on at 7:00am.
BHMS shuts off chromebooks so students will not attempt to stay up all night working on school projects, homework or playing games. This allows students to get more sleep. By getting more sleep, students may pay better attention in class.
By adding this policy some students with extracurricular activities may need to make adjustments to complete their work at different times.
Ultimately, this policy allows students to work for a certain amount of time before and after school without staying up all night.
Student News Show
Direct from Mr. Peebles Broadcasting classes, the student news production is a weekly show for students by students.
