Principal's Corner
Dear Oak View Community,
I am so proud to announce that Oak View Elementary’s Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) data is now public and we have upward trends for our data for both reading and mathematics. If you have a current 4th or 5th grader, you should have the results of those state tests in your child’s ParentView account. In reading, we showed positive growth of 45% proficiency in Spring 2023 to 46% proficiency in Spring 2024. Oak View’s trend outperformed the District average in reading. In mathematics, we showed positive growth of 44% proficiency in Spring 2023 to 47% proficiency in Spring 2024. Thank you to all the staff and families for all their hard work and dedication. Together, we can do amazing things for our scholars.
Parent/Caregiver Pick Up
Thank you to all the families for supporting the new student pick up procedures that we implemented this year. Students are doing an excellent job coming down to the Media Center at 3:55. They look for their number and collect their siblings then head right outside. This new system has created a much more orderly and safe process for everyone. We are grateful for all the support of families. Staff report they feel the whole system is much more orderly and safe.
Safety Drills
I like to give families a heads up when we do Lockdown safety drills at Oak View. Our first drill will be on Friday, September 27th at 3:15. I will do a podcast in the morning talking through the procedure with students. Teachers will also follow up with kids about the drills. I want to acknowledge that these drills can feel scary and overwhelming for students and staff. I would recommend checking in with your children on Friday night to talk through the drill and to let them know that we do these drills so that all the staff at Oak View can keep kids safe in the event of an emergency. We also have school counselors and social workers who can follow up with your scholars if you think an extra check in will help. We do five of these emergency drills throughout the year. I will make sure I notify families ahead of time so that you can also prepare your children. If you have any questions about the drills, please reach out to me and we can talk through them.
With gratitude,
Principal Gibbs
Fun Run
Our Fun Run is THIS Friday! We are well on our way the whole school goal of $35,000. Parents/Guardians are welcome to come watch. You can head straight to the field to watch.
This fundraiser pays for field trips, yearbooks, STEM night, the Naturalist, conference catering, and more. Our team has planned fun events along the way to keep our students motivated. Each student will receive a FREE t-shirt the morning of the Fun Run to wear while running, then they can keep it!
If you haven't yet, sign your student(s) up here- http://pledgestar.com/oakview55369
Cash and check will also be accepted.
