Welcome to B.L.U.E.!
At Lake Fenton Middle School, we believe success is about more than grades—it is about developing students of strong character. Throughout the year, you'll hear your child talk about being B.L.U.E., which stands for Brave, Loyal, Unstoppable, and Engaged. These four expectations guide how students learn, interact with others, solve problems, and contribute to our school community every day.
We will start the school year with a focus on belonging. We encourage families to ask their child, "Who is someone new you met this week?" or "How did you help someone feel included?" When school and home reinforce the same values, students develop stronger relationships which contributes to a child's self-confidence.

6th Grade Electives
You can explore all of our exciting 6th Grade elective offerings in the 6th Grade Course Request & Course Descriptions document, which was shared at our May Orientation and linked in that afternoon's parent email. We purposefully designed our 6th Grade electives as a dynamic exploratory experience, giving students a wonderful opportunity to sample a variety of middle school electives early on so families feel confident when choosing courses for 7th and 8th grade.
7th Grade Immunization Requirements
Attention all incoming 7th-grade students and families for the 2026-2027 school year!
To attend school in the State of Michigan, all students are required to have up-to-date immunizations. At this age, there are three specific vaccines that are typically due or overdue:
Varicella (Chickenpox)
Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis booster)
Meningococcal Conjugate
What you need to do:
Check Status / Schedule: You can check your student's current status by calling the Genesee County Health Department at (810) 257-3612 to see which requirements have not been met yet.
Waiver Information: If you choose to opt out of vaccinations for the 2026-2027 school year, you must also call that same number (810) 257-3612 to schedule an appointment to obtain an official state waiver.
Please ensure these requirements are completed before the start of the new school year to avoid any enrollment delays!
Food Service Information
We are excited to share that all students will once again receive free breakfast and lunch at school this year through Michigan's statewide school meals program. We are proud to provide nutritious meals to every student each school day at no cost to families.
While school meals are free for all students, it is still very important that every family completes the Education Benefits Form. This form helps determine eligibility for valuable educational funding that directly benefits our students and school community.
Completing the Education Benefits Form may help provide:
Technology and educational support services
Academic intervention and enrichment opportunities
Reduced or waived fees for eligible students
Support for other state and federal programs that benefit children and families
Even if you do not believe your family qualifies, submitting the form ensures our school receives the funding it is eligible to receive. Every completed form helps us better support our students, teachers, and classrooms.
We encourage all families to complete and return the Education Benefits Form HERE as soon as possible. Your participation makes a meaningful difference in the educational opportunities available to every student.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to a wonderful school year and are grateful for the opportunity to serve your family.

- 6th Grade: The parking lot off of N. Long Lake in front of the middle school main entrance will be used for 6th grade drop-off and pick-up.
- For safety and the flow of traffic, please turn right ONLY when exiting the parking lot directly in front of the middle school main entrance.

7/8th Grade: The parking lot off of Main Road, located next to the baseball field will be used for 7th and 8th grade drop-off and pick-up.
Multiple Grades: If you have students in multiple grades, choose either drop-off/pick-up location to drop-off/pick-up all your children.
Safety Tips & Reminders
Students must stay on the sidewalks or in the vestibule while they wait for their rides.
It is important that all students are picked-up after school and that they are not waiting around and wandering about the school grounds.
Students should be dropped-off and picked-up at the school only and should not be crossing Torrey Road to get food and or snacks.
Driver Safety Tips During Pick-up & Drop-Off
- Be alert: Staff are exiting their vehicles and children can sometimes be unpredictable by ignoring hazards and taking risks.
- Be patient: Students and families are trying their best to leave in a timely manner.
- Be prepared: there will be more traffic in school zones, especially during start and end times, allowing extra travel time.
- Open Parking Spaces: Please do not pull through the open spaces or the handicap spaces in the parking lot during drop-off and pick-up.
- Side of the Road Drop-off and Pick-up: With the heavy traffic during the day, students should not walk to or across the road to be dropped-off or picked-up.

Do not walk while using headphones
Student Arrival / Departure Time Reminder
Students will be allowed to enter the building no sooner than 30 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled student day. The scheduled student day starts at 7:15 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays while the scheduled student day starts at 8:15 AM on Wednesdays (unless otherwise noted).
Students will not be permitted in the building any later than 20 minutes following the end of the scheduled student day. The scheduled student day ends at 2:15 PM.
Thank you again for your understanding and please continue to be alert, patient, and prepared for how busy morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up can be.
Let’s make it a safe start of the school year!
One-Way Bus to North End Coffee Cake Bake Reminder
Students whose families have completed the attached updated waiver will be able to briefly ride a bus across the street to North End Coffee Cake Bake instead of attempting to cross Torrey Road.
With the partnership of North End Coffee Cake Bake, Dean Transportation, and Lake Fenton Community Schools, students who have completed the attached parental permission document may ride the final bus in our daily rotation one-way from Lake Fenton Middle School to North End Coffee Cake Bake. This optional service is being offered as a safe alternative to students attempting to cross Torrey Road after school. Families remain responsible for determining and communicating with their student how they will return to campus or travel home after their time at North End Coffee Cake Bake.
Students whose families complete this form will receive a uniquely identifiable sticker for their Student ID. This sticker will allow them to board the designated bus at Lake Fenton Middle School and exit at North End Coffee Cake Bake.
If a student is absent, the school assumes that their parent or guardian is aware that their child is not attending classes.
When a student is unable to attend school for any portion of the day, their parent or guardian must notify the middle school office at (810) 591-2211 on the day of the absence or the student is considered truant.
If the parent learns of the absence when they return from work that evening, they may still report their knowledge of the absence by calling the above number and leaving a voicemail.
Every effort should be made to make appointments outside of the school day.
Absences for driver’s training or other non-medical reasons are not appropriate during the school day.
A “personal absence” will not be accepted as a valid excuse due to pupil accounting requirements.
Deadlines on long-term assignments are enforced regardless of student absence.
Student Responsibilities:
If a student is late or absent for any portion of the school day, they must sign-in to the main office to receive an admittance pass to class.
If a student has received permission to leave the building through written verification or communication from the parent or guardian, they must first check-out in the main office.
Students must coordinate with their teachers to make-up any missed work after an absence. They have the same number of days to complete the work as the number of days they were absent, with possible extensions at the teacher’s discretion.
Term Definitions:
Guardian Approved Absence - defined as an absence from school with guardian communication to the office when notification is received by 3:30pm the following day. Guardian Approved Absences will count towards truancy.
Exempt Absence - defined as an absence which does not count toward the maximum days per semester. Included in this category are suspensions, school related activities, funerals, religious holidays, quarantine, legal appointments, medical absence accompanied by a doctor's note, or absence due to unusual circumstances as approved by the Principal. Documentation of exempt days must be in writing.
Unexcused Absence - defined as an absence for any reason other than those listed as Guardian Approved or exempt. Unexcused absences include skipping, oversleeping, driver’s training, missing the bus, leaving school without signing-out, non-medical, “personal absences”, and unverified absences.
Tardy - defined as not being in their designated classroom when the bell rings.
A student who is tardy will be admitted to class, but the teacher will note the tardiness.
A tardy will be excused with a doctor’s note, but not excused for personal reasons.
Late Arrival / Early Dismissal:
A student who arrives at school after 1st Period has begun must sign-in at the main office to obtain a pass that will admit them into class.
If a student must leave during the scheduled student day, the parent or guardian must come into the main office to sign-out the student.
Consequences for Excessive Absences:
Warning Notification - a student who reaches their 5th Unexcused/Guardian Approved absence shall receive a warning stating the consequences of additional accrued absences.
Attendance Agreement - a student who reaches their 10th Unexcused/Guardian Approved absence in a semester will be placed on an attendance agreement. An attempt will be made to include the student when developing the attendance agreement.
Parent Meeting - a student with 15 combined Unexcused/Guardian Approved absences will be required to attend a meeting with school administration and parents. Details of the circumstances will be documented and a plan of action to improve attendance will be developed.
Loss of Privilege - a student is at risk of losing the privileges of dances, field trips, and after school functions such as games and clubs due to poor attendance and/or excessive tardies. Parent notification with limits imposed will occur.
Probate Court - a student under sixteen years of age with excessive absences may be notified by the Probate Court and appropriate action taken in compliance with state law. 20 total absences (excused or unexcused) will be used to investigate truancy.
Consequences for Excessive Tardiness:
Promptness to class is expected so students are prepared to enter the world of work. Consequences of excessive tardiness includes parent notification along with the following:
A student who reaches their 5th tardy in any class will receive a warning stating the consequences of additional tardies.
A student who reaches their 10th tardy in any class may be assigned two hours of after school detention.
On the 15th tardy, a referral will be handled as insubordination with a parent meeting.
A student entering class after 5 minutes will be considered absent and marked with a 5AB, unless a pass accompanies a student.
Attendance as it relates to Athletics and Extracurriculars
Students will only be allowed to participate in an athletic or extracurricular contest, practice, performance, or meeting when they have attended school for a majority of the school day on the day of the event.
If a student is absent from school for extenuating circumstances (required court attendance, professional appointments with provided documentation, death in the immediate family, etc.), then the student must notify the middle school office prior to the event of this pre-arranged absence in order to be able to participate.
A doctor's note is required when the reason for the student's absence is due to a medical appointment.
Attendance as it relates to Co-Curriculars
Examples of middle school co-curriculars include the band and choir courses where a grade is earned for rehearsals and performances outside of the scheduled student day.
Due to the course grade earned for co-curricular rehearsals and performances outside of the scheduled student day, a student will be allowed to participate regardless of attendance on the day of the event.
Student Arrival / Departure Times
Students will be allowed to enter the building no sooner than 30 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled student day. The scheduled student day starts at 7:15 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays while the scheduled student day starts at 8:15 AM on Wednesdays (unless otherwise noted).
Students will not be permitted in the building any later than 20 minutes following the end of the scheduled student day. The scheduled student day ends at 2:15 PM.
