Assistant Principal's Message
Hello Canaan Elementary Families,
I hope this message finds you and your little ones well. First off, I want to say thank you to all of our families who supported our fall fundraiser. We very much appreciate your support. We will use the money to support enrichment activities throughout the school year.
It's hard to believe that we are already well into the school year and approaching the end of trimester 1. Your students are making great progress. I want to take a moment to share some important updates and information with you as we move into the month of November.
Parent Teacher Conference
Our official parent teacher conference day/evening is Monday, November 24th. Teachers may also offer alternative times. At your conference time, your student's teacher will review their report card, assessments, academics, and classroom behavior. This is a very important time to learn about your child's academic, behavioral, and social emotional strengths and needs. We hope you'll make your best effort to attend your child's parent teacher conference.
Thanksgiving Break
A reminder that there is no school Monday, November 24th - Friday, November 28th. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Appropriate Dress
Before you know it, winter will be upon us. Please make sure students have appropriate cold weather gear for our recess time. If you are having difficulty providing your child with appropriate cold weather gear, please let us know.
Arrival
As you know, we’re a small but mighty team, and everyone pitches in to make mornings run smoothly! On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the front door closes at 8:05 a.m. so Mrs. Bellerose can head to her classroom to greet her students. If you arrive after 8:05 and no one is at the front door, please come to the side door instead. Thanks so much for your help and understanding — we really appreciate it!
Attendance Matters!
Going to school every day helps children learn, make friends, and build good habits. In Maine, children ages 6–17 are required by law to attend school. Missing too many days without a good reason is called truancy. If a student has several unexcused absences, the school will reach out to help get them back on track.
We will also reach out if your child is close to being chronically absent. This is missing 10% or more days a year regardless if they are excused. This figures out to being about 17 days a year and could effect your child's education. Regular school attendance plays a crucial role in a child’s success.
Thank you for helping your child be here every day — it makes a big difference! Have a warm and cozy November!
Best,
Erin Madore

Core Value of the Month - Trust
Each month Canaan Elementary students learn about a core value. These core values are essential for building good character and all point back to the BIG 3 - Treating others right, making smart decisions, and maximizing your potential. November's core value is Trust. Trust is putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.
Students will earn cougar slips if seen showing Trust and any of our previous studied core values. Each month, we will draw one cougar slip and that student's classroom will win an extra recess! Teachers also pick 2 students each month to be the Core Value Student of the Month. These students will receive a certificate, a medal, and be invited to a pizza party with Mrs. Madore.
Knowledge Student of the Month
Mrs. Gallison's Class - Jack & Eleanor
Mrs. Bellerose's Class - Carter & Audrey
Mrs. Whittemore's Class - Coby & Julian
Our Courage classroom of the month is Mrs. Gallison's Class (again!) The ticket pulled was Jack's ticket. Mrs. Gallison's class earned an extra recess!
