MYP SERVICE AS ACTION
Service as Action is an important part of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Each school year, MYP students are expected to complete one Service as Action project per semester. These projects give students the opportunity to help others, get involved in their community, and make a positive difference in the world around them. Please note that Service as Action is part of the student’s grade in their Individuals & Societies class.
SERVICE ACTION OPPORTUNITIES
We have come across a great opportunity to earn your Service as Action for semester 2 through Sunrise Walks South Florida, a charitable event supporting Sunrise Day Camp and Sunrise Programs, which provide free summer day camp and year-round programs for children with cancer and their siblings.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to earn service hours, get involved locally, and make a real difference in the lives of children and families facing pediatric cancer.
Event Details:
• Setup Day: Saturday, January 31, 2026
• Event Day: Sunday, February 1, 2026
• Location: Nova Southeastern University
Volunteers will assist with event setup, cheer on walkers, help with activities, and support event operations. Every role helps create a joyful, supportive environment for families — reminding them they are not alone.
Why Sunrise Programs Matter:
Sunrise Programs bring joy, friendship, and hope to children with cancer and their siblings through completely free summer day camp and in-hospital programming. The Sunrise Walk raises critical funds to ensure these programs remain accessible to families who need them most.
Students who volunteer will gain:
• Verified community service hours
• Hands-on volunteer experience
• The opportunity to support children and families in our community
• A chance to be part of an inspiring and uplifting event
The Rotary Club of Bal Harbour and Bal Harbour Police Department is excited to announce our 9th Annual 5K Race/Walk will be held on Sunday, February 8th, 2026!
Join us for a special morning at Haulover Park as we honor two incredible leaders through a community 5k walk/run. This inspiring event brings the community together for a great cause and meaningful service. Participants in the race will receive chip timing, a finisher medal, and an event t-shirt, with awards given to the top finishers.
Student volunteers will play a very important role in supporting the event while demonstrating service, leadership, and community engagement.
