Here are a few simple ways you can support your child at home and help them continue building great habits:
Academic Success
-
Create a homework routine – Set aside a consistent time and quiet space for study.
-
Monitor grades and attendance – Use the Skyward parent portal to stay informed.
-
Encourage daily reading – Even 20–30 minutes a day builds comprehension and vocabulary.
-
Practice math facts – Especially multiplication, as it supports higher-level math skills.
Social and Emotional Support
-
Talk about their day – Ask open-ended questions like “What was the best part of your day?”
-
Encourage healthy friendships – Discuss how to handle peer pressure and conflicts.
-
Recognize effort, not just grades – Praise persistence and problem-solving.
-
Stay positive and patient – Middle school is a time of big changes.
Organization and Responsibility
-
Teach time management – Help them use planners or phone reminders.
-
Review backpacks/agendas weekly – Remove old papers and keep materials organized.
-
Set realistic goals – Encourage them to take ownership of their learning and progress.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us make this a great school year for your child.

During the first few weeks of school, our Bulldogs participated in student safety training over the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). We are proud to share that our scholars were actively engaged in the training, asking questions and practicing the procedures to ensure they know how to respond in any situation.
In addition to the classroom training, we continue to conduct campus-wide safety drills to practice what we learned. These drills help both students and staff feel prepared and confident in the event of an emergency.
We encourage all families to take a moment to review the Standard Response Protocol we train on with every student and staff member. Being familiar with these procedures allows us to work together to keep our campus safe and secure.
At Aguirre Junior High, we believe that appearance sets the tone for success. When our staff dresses in a polished and professional manner, it reflects the high expectations we hold for our entire school community. This commitment models self-respect, pride, and readiness for our scholars. By seeing these examples daily, students are encouraged to take their own presentation seriously and to understand that preparing for success starts with how you show up, in school and in life.

Exposing our scholars to colleges and post-secondary trades through our attire is a powerful way to plant the seeds of aspiration and possibility. By wearing college or trade school gear, we are not only showing our pride but also sparking curiosity and conversation among students about their future options. This visual exposure helps our scholars envision themselves in these environments, fostering a culture of ambition and encouraging them to think about the paths they can pursue beyond middle and high school.

What Is PBIS Rewards?
PBIS Rewards is a schoolwide system we use at Aguirre Junior High to encourage and recognize positive student behavior.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Instead of focusing only on consequences, PBIS Rewards helps us intentionally teach, model, and celebrate the behaviors we want to see in our students every day.
How It Works
-
Students earn PBIS points when they demonstrate positive behaviors such as being respectful, responsible, prepared, and engaged in learning.
-
Points are earned during the school day from staff members who recognize students for making good choices.
-
Students can redeem points for incentives, rewards, and special opportunities through our campus PBIS program.
Stronger Together: The Power of Parental Involvement
Parental involvement plays a vital role in a student’s academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being. When families and schools work together, students are more motivated, confident, and engaged in their learning. Your involvement, whether through communication with teachers, participation in school events, or support at home, reinforces the value of education and shows students that their success matters. At Aguirre Junior High, we believe strong partnerships with families strengthen our school community and help ensure every student reaches their full potential. Together, we set the foundation for excellence and success for all scholars.
CELL PHONES & FOOD POLICY
- Students are not allowed to use cell phones during the instructional day. This includes hallways, cafeteria, classrooms, restrooms, etc. Cell phones need to put away and out of sight. Failure to comply with campus cell phone policy will result in disciplinary action.
HEADPHONES/AIRPODS
- Students are not permitted to use headphones/airpods.
FOOD DELIVERIES
- Students are not allowed to have food delivered to the school. This includes UberEats, Door Dash, etc.
NO FOOD OR DRINKS
- No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom, unless the student has permission from their teacher.
AVID Binders
As an AVID National Demonstration School, we take great pride in equipping our students with tools that support organization, academic success, and college & career readiness. These binders are a key part of that commitment.
Each binder includes everything your child needs to stay organized and start the school year strong: dividers, sheet protectors, notebooks, pencils, highlighters, and more! (Please note: backpack not included.)
We are excited to share that every student at Aguirre Junior High has received a FREE student agenda to support organization and academic success.
As an AVID National Demonstration School, we hold high expectations for student organization. The agenda is a key tool for tracking assignments, projects, and important dates.
Expectations:
-
Students will use their agenda daily in all classes.
-
Agendas will be sent home each week for a parent or guardian signature.
-
This will help keep you informed of your child’s progress and responsibilities.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our students are set up for success this school year.
