Our Elmwood Monthly News
September 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Elmwood Families,
We are off to a great start to the school year, and I want to thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.
Daily attendance is essential to ensuring that we can provide the consistent learning experiences your child needs to succeed. In addition, home practice will be given on a regular basis to help reinforce classroom learning.
Our commitment is to provide you with consistent and timely updates regarding your child’s academic progress. Together, we can ensure that our educational programs remain as rigorous and enriching as your child deserves.
I look forward to our ongoing communication as we continue moving the Elmwood community forward academically. We are, and will remain, a community of changemakers.
With gratitude,
Jeffrey S. Hogan
Attendance Updates
There is direct positive influence on student achievement when students attend school 94% or more of the time.
We understand that there are some absences that are unavoidable. Students should remain home if they are:
Running a fever over 100 degrees
Vomiting
Experiencing diarrhea
Under the direct care of a doctor
If you would like support on whether or not to send your child to school, please contact Nurse Daniels in our health suite at 443-809-7396.
If your child is unable to come to school, please send in a note, letter from the doctor, text message, or call the front office at 443-809-5232 to ensure your child's absence is documented accordingly.
Back to School Night!
Back to School Night is coming up on Monday 9/15. Check out the flyers below for more details! Can't wait to see you there!
From Our Special Area Team
PE with Mr. Dayberry
Here's what our Elmwood Eagles will be working on in PE with Mr. Dayberry this month!
Instrumental Music with Dr. Yacoub
4th Grade Exploratory Music:
Fourth grade students are currently exploring the Science of Sound! What creates sound and how do we hear it? Students participated in experiments involving tuning forks with water and ping pong balls, and even a Slinky to demonstrate soundwave movement!
5th Grade Instrumental Music:
This is the time to sign up to play an instrument in the Elmwood ES Band or Orchestra! Registration packets have been sent home to all 5th grade students. Interest forms are due on September 19th. Please contact Dr. Yacoub with any questions at ayacoub@bcps.org. Looking forward to making music very soon!
Student Spotlight!
Is your student doing something amazing in the community? Volunteering? Crushing it on the ball field? Involved in extra-curricular activities? Won an award?
We would love to feature them here!
Email your amazing student's accomplishments (including pictures, if you can!) to Ms. McGrain - amcgrain@bcps.org to be featured in our student spotlight!
