One Week Until Fall Break
CVHS Family Newsletter 2026-2027, Issue 11

Sabercats--we have just one week until Fall Break! If you haven't already marked your calendar, there will be no school 10/12-10/16. So, make this week count!
Be present, be on time, and continue to showUP as your best self. Now that we are already halfway through the Fall semester, it's the right time to reflect on how the school year has started and what you want to continue to focus on through the rest of 2026!
With Gratitude,
Alissa Jonesz
Principal, Castle View HS
Next Week's Schedule
On Wednesday (10/7) we will be facilitating Fall testing for our juniors and seniors. Students were given their proctors and testing locations in advisement this past week.
Juniors and seniors will be provided a school-issued Chromebook for their test and do not need to bring any additional materials.
Freshmen and sophomores do not need to report to school on Wednesday until noon. The modified schedule for 10/7 can be found here. Underclassmen who ride the bus or are dropped off at the usual time may work independently in the library or the Commons.
Colds, Flu, and Cell Phones!
As cold and flu season approaches, we want to share a gentle reminder regarding our school health room procedures and how they align with our updated cell phone policy for this school year.
Our primary goals are to minimize classroom disruptions, support student wellness, and keep learning time continuous for everyone, as consistent attendance is critical to academic success, especially in high school.
Guidelines for Unwell Students
Report directly to the Health Room: If your student is feeling ill during class or between periods, please remind them to notify their teacher and head directly to the health room first before reaching out to you.
Adherence to Cell Phone Policy: Under this year’s updated cell phone policy, students are not permitted to use personal devices during class time. This helps prevent unnecessary class interruptions and ensures students receive immediate care from trained staff.
Parent Communication from the Health Room: Once your student is checked into the health room, our staff will help them contact you to arrange for pickup if necessary.
Rest and Recovery: The health room provides a safe space for students to rest and regroup. Often, a brief rest allows students to feel better and return to class for the remainder of the day without having to leave school early.
Whether for illness or another reason, once your student exceeds 5 days absent our Dean team (9 & 11: Troy Tallmadge, 10 & 12: Chris Morgan) will begin to reach out. If you know your student will be absent for an illness (or otherwise), please feel free to include your students' dean proactively when you reach out to our attendance line.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our classrooms focused and our school community healthy! If you have any questions or need to update medical information for your student, please contact our Health Office team: Nurse Jayne Williams and Health Assistant Jess Cadarette.
Healthy Communication Programming
Last week, our teachers delivered dedicated advisement lessons focused on bullying prevention, healthy communication, and conflict resolution. This guide shares what your students explored in class, and provides you guidance so you can continue these vital conversations at home. Your CV Counseling team appreciates your partnership!

DCSD MLO
How will my school benefit?
The Douglas County School District Board of Education recently voted unanimously to place a $54 million Mill Levy Override (MLO) on the November ballot. If passed by voters, this is how the additional funds would be invested in our school.
Mill Levy Override Dollars
- Increase teacher and staff pay by providing salaries that are more competitive with neighboring school districts
- Increase and maintain school security support, including school resource officers
- Reduce student waitlists for Career and Technical Education programming, including the trades
- Restore student programming such as instrumental music in elementary schools
Visit funding.dcsdk12.org to learn more about the MLO or explore the Douglas County Bond Map to see how funds like these contribute to our neighborhood schools.
Show Up | Show Out | Show Down
Each week throughout this year, we're looking forward to celebrating students who are living our CV values! And every month, we'll select recipients for our Castle View Challenge Coins.
Show Up
Leanid Parakhnevich: Leanid stayed after class to help clean up a mess left by his classmates, he wasn't asked and he didn't accept candy, he just wanted to be helpful. Always a very considerate and kind kiddo.
Liliana Quintana: Liliana SHOWS UP each day in class. She's consistently there in class, fully engaged, full time, the whole time. She's consistently taking care of her classmates, and shows great, authentic interest of her peers. She's not afraid to speak her mind and advocate for herself, and others who may need an advocate. She's totally an UPSTANDER, and not a bystander. Well done Liliana.
Jory Chavez: Jory is a dedicated and dependable Algebra 2 student. He always arrives on time, comes prepared, and works hard to master challenging concepts. He is also a fantastic peer who frequently takes the initiative to help his classmates. It is a pleasure having him in class.
Rylan Neiswender: Ryan shows up every day ready to learn. He engages wholeheartedly in all activities and always gives his best. He is quietly awesome and is one of the kindest students I have ever had.
Jessica Cadarette: There is no one like Jess that includes and just LOVES our staff and kids (all of them) like she does!
Show Out
Sarah Tong and Landon Allen: These two stand-out members of CV Chaos have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support CV's athletes and student sections at multiple events. They show up early to football games, hang around late for volleyball games, and even stand in the rain to support softball. They are truly what Chaos is meant to represent- class, culture, and competitive spirit!
Carter Sutton: Carter shows out everyday in Spanish class. He wants to understand, challenges himself with new vocabulary and just always gives his best. I really enjoy the questions he asks to help further his learning and the class learning. Great job Carter!
Cade Campbell: Cade is doing a great job in Spanish class as always. This is his 3rd year with me in Spanish and he always turns in quality work. You can tell he wants to get it right. When having conversations in Spanish he responds quickly and accurately. It has been fun to see him grown in his Spanish abilities.
Bryce Colby: Bryce has a been an exemplary student and role model but I am nominating him because of his ability to be an outstanding friend, classmate and role-model. Going above and beyond to be a helping hand during class and not being afraid to be a leader when the situation calls for it. Bryce is an outstanding model of what it means to show-out!
Corey Schloffman: I would like to nominate Corey Schloffman for a Shout Out for being an all-around amazing human being and teacher! Corey consistently goes above and beyond for students in the SSN program and is an incredible supporter of Unified Sports. He is kind, funny, empathetic, and always willing to jump in and help wherever he is needed. Corey truly embraces inclusion and makes every student feel valued, supported, and part of the Castle View community. He fully participates in all things Sabercat and brings positivity, energy, and heart to everything he does. We are incredibly grateful that Corey joined the CVHS family. Castle View is a better place because he is here!
Show Down
Kinley Buchhop: Kinley has been absolutely crushing it this week in Chemistry. She has shown so much growth just in the last 6 weeks of class. I can see her grittiness and her willingness to stick with it when she feels challenged increasing by the day. Keep it going Kinley!
Sabrina Gentry: Ms. Gentry plays an essential role in supporting both students and staff by helping coordinate field trips and managing student eligibility requirements. Her organizational skills make sure that all necessary requirements for all are met. Her willingness to help, positive attitude, and commitment to keeping things running smoothly make her a valuable part of our school community.
Say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to your Sabercat and support the Castle View High School PTO by purchasing a Birthday Gram to be displayed on the CVHS marquee! For only $20, your student will get a special shout out on our sign on their birthday! All funds help the CV PTO take care of our staff!
