HES Family and Community Newsletter

What a wonderful first week at Hurlock Elementary! We welcomed almost 390 students into our building—from familiar faces returning for another year to many new students joining our HES family, including our littlest learners—our 3-year-olds!

One of my favorite parts of the week was watching our students reconnect. I saw old friendships filled with so much joy after a summer apart, while new friendships were already beginning to grow.

Our staff and students spent much of the week getting to know one another, learning routines and expectations, and understanding their roles in making our school a place where everyone can learn, grow, and belong.

We also had LOTS to celebrate! 🎉 Many of our classes had 100% attendance AND no tardy students!

This year, we are focused on starting learning on time and making the most of every opportunity we have together. When your child arrives at school on time and stays for the entire school day, they have more opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and reach their fullest potential. Every minute matters because every opportunity matters!

Those words are more than just our theme. They represent what we believe about our children and the responsibility we share as a school community. Every moment we have with our students is a precious opportunity to help them grow into stronger readers, problem solvers, leaders, and citizens.

Our school day is packed with learning from 8:45 a.m.–3:45 p.m. There truly isn’t time to spare.

Our commitment: Make every minute with your child count.

Our ask of families: Help us by having your child at school, on time, and here for the entire day.

This year, we’re making being on time a little more fun with our #NoTardyTaters initiative!

Our goal is simple: Be in the building BEFORE 8:45 a.m.

Why before? Because 8:45 is when learning begins! Students need time to get to their classrooms, unpack, settle in, and be ready to learn when the bell rings.

In the building before 8:45 → In class and ready at 8:45 → More opportunities to Grow Greatness!
