Dear Hartford School District Community,

I think it is fair to say that an election year always brings with it a certain degree of uncertainty, wherever one may sit on the political spectrum.

Regardless of identity or political affiliation, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a dynamic and caring learning experience for all of the children of this special community. One way in which we do this is to continue to hone our skills in facilitating rich discussion among our students and staff. We have been working with Suffolk University and partnering with UVEI to focus our work on having courageous conversations and honoring and engaging all voices.

In case you are interested in probing these topics more deeply, here is a resource that we have shared for families to refer to and use in encouraging respectful discourse among the school community.

Please enjoy this newsletter, which provides examples of the ways in which we support, foster, and nurture the growth of the young people who we have dedicated our work in serving.

I wish you rest and peace as you enjoy the long weekend.

Warmly,

Caty Sutton

Interim Superintendent

Fall Sports Highlights from Athletic Director, Jeff Moreno! Fall Sports Highlights from Athletic Director, Jeff Moreno!

Cross Country

The cross country teams swept the SVL championships on October 18th in a meet at Springfield. This has only ever happened once before in school history (2021). Did you know…before 2019 the girls XC team hadn’t won a league title since 1982 but since 2020 they have won 3 of the last 5 league titles…AND…the boys hadn’t won a league title since 1971 and they have now won 6 of the last 7 league titles. Incredible run of success for the XC program at HHS!!

Field Hockey

Congratulations to the field hockey team for winning the 2024 D-II state championship! They ran up an impressive 14-1-1 record this season to earn the #1 seed in the tournament before they stormed through the bracket culminating with a thrilling 1-0 victory over U-32 in the championship game last Saturday. This is the program’s 13th state title (all since 1989) which amounts to about 1 state title every 2.6 years since 1989. Absolutely incredible!! Congratulations to the players, the entire coaching staff, and all involved with the team!

Athlete Highlight

Congratulations to senior Madison Barwood for scoring her 100th goal in field hockey. She is the first player in school history (and one of only a handful statewide) to accomplish this very rare milestone!

Staff Shoutout

Congratulations to Connor Brooks for being named the 2024 SVL-B boys soccer coach of the year! Coach Brooks guided the Canes to the SVL title, the #2 seed in the tournament, and the program’s first home semifinal game since 1999! Great work!
