From the Staff
Kia ora whanau,
What a fantastic few weeks it has been for our students! We've seen incredible dedication and outstanding achievements across a range of events.
Our annual whole school cross country was a success. The commitment shown by our students in their training and their resilience on race day was inspiring. They not only pushed themselves against the course but also against each other, creating a tough, competitive spirit and everyone did outstanding! Despite a few nervous glances at the clouds, the weather was on our side, and we managed to get through all the races with minimal rain. The incredible parent turnout and enthusiastic cheering at the finish line made the event even more special, and parents' support (and running 👀) did not go unnoticed. The teachers will have to show up to give you some competition next year.
The following day, 60 of our students represented the school at Te Horo. With determination and a bit of good natured rivalry, our team outdid themselves. Their collective effort and heart resulted in us bringing home the Taniwha Shield for the third time! Placing in nearly every race. A huge thank you again to all the parents who helped with transportation and provided encouragement. Your support is what makes these opportunities possible.
Our Year 7 & 8’s competed with great spirit at an inter school Squash tournament and brought home some impressive results. Congratulations to Ben Oxford and Kayden Brown for placing first in their sections, Ashley Ruddell for taking first place, Vivien Morgan for a second place finish, and Tamsyn Booth and Ruby Holmes Libbis for their second and third place finishes. Every student gave it their all, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Our young mathematicians shone brightly at the inter school Mathex competition, where 32 students from Years 5-8 showcased their skills. The high pressure environment of the competition is no joke, but each team worked together with resilience and rose to the challenge. A massive thank you to David Kelly, who dedicated countless hours to training and challenging our students. His commitment and support were a key part of their success.
This week (Week 6), we are cheering on our team of 14 as they compete in the Sevens tournament in Kamo. They're looking sharp in some vintage rugby tops found in the PE shed. We wish them the very best of luck and can't wait to hear how they get on.
This Friday, our student leaders are attending the Youth Summit, where they have the privilege of hearing various speakers share their stories of success and struggle. The goal of the event is to motivate them to pursue their goals and never give up. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to grow and gain new perspectives.
Next Monday (Week 7) we are wishing the very best of luck to our amazing Science Fair finalists attending the Northland Science Fair and Forum North. The Year 7 & 8 teachers had an incredibly difficult time selecting who would move forward this year, and that's a true testament to the outstanding effort and hard work every student put in. A huge well done to you all!
On Wednesday of Week 7, we have 50 of our students competing in the inter school cross country event at Barge Park. We have all been training incredibly hard, and we are so excited to cheer them on!
The term has been jam-packed with opportunities for our students to learn, compete, and grow, and it's all made possible by our parents' unwavering support. We appreciate you making all these events possible. Thank you for everything you do!
Kind Regards,
Kimmy Taoho
