A Message from Principal Groves
Dear Blacklick Families:
Report cards for quarter 3 came home with students last Friday. Please take some time to review the report card with your child. This is a great opportunity to discuss their progress and to set some academic goals. We want students to have a strong finish this school year! Please sign the envelope and send the envelope back to school with your child.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.
Respectfully,
Kristen Groves

Related Arts Spotlight - Grade 4
Art in Grade 4
4th Graders have been working on their Alebrije Mexican Folk Art inspired sculptures! Each student designed their own whimsical animal and have been sculpting their vision out of clay. This requires a lot of clay skills, such as pinching forms, rolling coils, and attaching pieces of clay using the score, slip and smooth method. After the work is fired in the kiln, students will paint and add embellishments to their creatures!
Music in Grade 4
Fourth graders are doing Recorder Karate! This is an exciting program where the students can earn colored “belts” based on their ability to play songs individually on their recorders. Will your child earn a Black Belt?!
Library in Grade 4
Fourth graders have been focusing on digital citizenship. We have been talking about how to be safe online, how to protect our privacy, and the importance of making balanced media choices that are right for you.
Ohio State Testing Schedule for Grades 3, 4, and 5
Below is the spring Ohio State Testing schedule for our students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Testing will begin at 8:30 AM for grades 4 and 5. Testing will begin at approximately 9:45 AM in grade 3. We kindly ask that you avoid planned absences or planned medical appointments on these dates. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Attention 4th Grade Families! Ohio History Connections!
4th Grade Students and Families,
Ohio History Connections, the organization that operates the Ohio Historical Center and the Ohio Village, also oversees over 50 other historical sites across the state. In addition, they also publish the Ohio as America curriculum Gahanna uses for 4th-grade Social Studies. Because our district uses its curriculum, Ohio History Connections is offering a free membership for each of our 4th graders! This membership will grant each student and one adult free entry into any of the historical sites they operate until August of this year. To register for this membership, complete the registration form found here. You can also find a list of all of the historical sites they operate here.

Share your Thanks for a Blacklick Staff Member!
Dear Parents,
We invite you to share a few kind words or a heartfelt message for your child's teacher or Blacklick staff member. Our staff works tirelessly to provide the best education and support for our children, and your appreciation can make a significant impact on their day.
Please take a moment to express your gratitude, share a positive experience, or simply say thank you.
Your messages will be shared with the staff member to brighten their day and acknowledge their hard work and dedication.
Thank you for your participation and support!
BES Staff Favorite Things
A list has been complied of the Blacklick staff's favorite things. It is important to understand the teachers are not asking for gifts. We know that many parents might want to get their child's teacher a gift and this list is to help you select something the teacher would like. Please do not feel obligated to buy a gift for your child's teachers/staff members. A thoughtful note from you and/or your child at any time of the year is appreciated just as much or more as any gift.
