Scheduling Update for the 2025-2026 School Year
Students will select their music classes for the upcoming school year during Connect on Friday, April 18. Please take some time before this date to discuss music options with your student. Keep in mind that once the schedule is finalized, it cannot be changed.
Schedule Pickup and Orientation: MSN will host a schedule pickup on July 23, 2025. During this event, students will receive their class and locker assignments, practice their locker combinations, and familiarize themselves with their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year.
Information for Current 6th Graders (7th Grade in 2025-2026):
Every 7th grader will participate in one semester of PE and can choose one year-long music ensemble.
For Unified Arts, students will continue in their current music class and will be placed into a UA class (Art, Tech Ed, or STEM) they haven't yet taken.
If your student took an instrumental music class (Orchestra, Brass, Percussion, or Woodwinds) and does not wish to continue, they should indicate this on the Google form.
Students interested in switching to choir should indicate that on their form AND speak directly to a choir teacher, either in person or via email.
Students who didn’t play an instrument this year cannot join Band or Orchestra in 7th grade without first speaking to the respective teacher and attending lessons outside of school hours.
If a student is not enrolled in a performing music class (Band, Orchestra, or Choir), they will be placed in another available UA class.
Important: Music classes are a year-long commitment, and schedules cannot be changed once the school year begins.
Information for Current 7th Graders (8th Grade in 2025-2026):
As 8th graders, students will have three Unified Arts periods. Every 8th grader will take at least one semester of PE and one semester of Computers. This leaves two additional UA slots each semester for a music class, a high school credit World Language, or another UA option (Spanish 8, Tech Ed, Art, or STEM).
Students will first be placed into any UA classes they haven't taken yet, and then their schedules will be filled with available classes.
Many students will continue in a performing music class (Choir, Band, or Orchestra).
Important: Music classes are a year-long commitment, and schedules cannot be changed once the school year begins.
If a student is invited to take a World Language for high school credit, invitations will be sent in mid-May. World Language is also a year-long course, and students cannot drop it during the year.
Spanish 1 is taught at MSN. Students enrolled in a World Language class at the high school (Chinese, German, or French) will attend CGHS every other day for that class, missing part or all of a UA.
Please note that taking a World Language in 8th grade is optional and designed for students who wish to begin language study early or aim to become fluent by the end of high school. Students who do not take a World Language in 8th grade will not fall behind in high school.
Thank you for your attention to these important details. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
