Principal Corner Principal Corner

Good afternoon, Chapelfield families.

We ended our week with our Quarter 4 PAWS breakfast! It was a full house! We recognized students who SHOWED RESPECT for this quarter. We are so proud of them.

In addition, we were able to celebrate two fabulous teachers that demonstrate GJPS core values at Chapelfield everyday---Integrity, Excellence, Inclusivity, Students First, Empowerment, and Collaboration. Miss Ginn, 3rd grade teacher, and Miss Heym, 5th grade ELA teacher, were our honorees.

At the end of the day, we were able to celebrate Karen Hammond, 5th grade ELA teacher, who has won the GJPS Heart & Pride Award. She will be recognized at the next GJPS Board meeting on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. She has taught at GJPS for over 31 years!

What a great way to end Teacher Appreciation Week by recognizing our own heroes at CES! We would like to take this moment to say THANK YOU to our PTO for showering us with so much love this week from breakfast to lunch to fun flight snacks! Thank you!

Enjoy a few picture highlights from this week down below.

  • Our Chinese Enrichment students ended their language program with a family performance.
  • Mrs. Pardi shared MAP data with 5th graders today. Here is one moment of a student seeing his huge growth in math! Our teachers have been celebrating our students' growth this year after all of the testing we have done recently.

We have a lot to be proud of at CES! I hope to see many of you at our carnival tonight.

Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day!

Sincerely,

Nikki Miller

Dear Families,

As the school year ends, take a few moments to connect with your child using these simple conversation starters.

  1. “What’s something you’re really proud of from this year?”

  2. “What will you miss most about school?”

  3. “Is there anything you’re nervous or unsure about for next year?”

  4. “What are you most excited to do this summer?”

  5. “Who is someone who helped you this year, and how did they make a difference?

These talking points can help your children reflect, process emotions, and feel supported during this transition.

GRIN provides weekend snack bags to be sent home on Fridays for families in need. If this is something you would be interested in, please email me at jasink@gjps.org.

If you have a social, emotional concern for your child that impacts them while they are at school and would like to share this with me to see how we can help support your child, please reach out to me at jasink@gjps.org.

Best,

Krysten Jasin - School Counselor

Music Update from Mrs. Herrmann

Kindergartener’s continue to demonstrate their ability to keep a steady beat while singing or listening to music. They are having lots of fun doing the scratch dance to the song “Rockin Robin” by Bobby Day. Ask your child to share it with you. (One arm around, other arm around, both arms around, flap arms like a chicken and the person who is the leader makes up a motion or a dance move!)

First grade is finishing up the year reading combinations of three rhythms with two pitches on the music staff. They are having a blast singing along to Watermelon, Watermelon! This is a great song for them to sing this summer!

Second grade has focused on learning two new notes on the staff and can now read/sing do, re, mi, so and la. They have enjoyed playing “Pizza, Pizza Daddy-o” which is a fun improvisation music game and are learning to play songs that they know on xylophones.

Third graders worked with their peers to create their own rhythmic cup routines to the song “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” They are super excited to FINALLY enjoy their introductory lessons with ukulele!

Fourth graders have continued learning ukulele and can now play four chords. They are doing a great job with the song, “Apples and Bananas!”

Fifth graders are finishing up world music drumming! I am so proud of their hard work. We also discussed music options for next year. There are four options - choir, band, orchestra and general music. All students will be able to try out each option at the start of their sixth grade year prior to deciding which class they want to take.

It’s been a great year here at Chapelfield and I’ve enjoyed working with each of our students in the music room. As this school year starts to come to a close, I want to sincerely thank you for sharing your children with me. They bring such joy to my day and I am grateful to share in their learning experiences!

I wish you all a wonderful summer.

Visitors Visitors

We kindly ask that ALL visitors follow the steps below each and every time you visit Chapelfield:

1. Once at the front, exterior doors of the school, press the buzzer. A member of the office staff will ask your reason for visiting Chapelfield.

2. Once inside the vestibule, you will enter your drivers' license or state ID into the scanner. ALL visitors/guests/guardians need to scan their drivers license EACH and EVERY time they visit Chapelfield.

3. Once your license has been scanned and processed you will be permitted to enter the main office area to pick up your visitor/volunteer badge.

4. If you have NEVER had your driver's licensed scanned at Chapelfield before, this will take a longer time. You will want to plan accordingly.

**As a reminder, if there is a non-guardian planning to visit Chapelfield for any reason (to eat lunch, read a book in the classroom, visit the bookfair, take your child to an appointment etc.), we ask that the guardian email the teacher and front office (gilzows@gjps.org ) to let us know prior to the visit.

Our Vestibule

The vestibule will be a place you have to wait if you are picking up a student, dropping off a book bag or lunch box.

The office is a busy place and there are times that we are dealing with student confidential issues. The vestibule will be a place to wait. It also allows us to keep our building safe. We want to keep students and staff safe including keeping confidential information safe. Thank you for understanding.
