Families, IT’S RACETIME! 🏎️💨

Our Impact Aid survey is underway, and every family matters! Please take about 5 minutes to complete the survey as soon as you can. The more surveys our families complete, the farther our school car moves on the Impact Aid scoreboard!

👉 Check out the scoreboard here and cheer us on!

🚦 Here’s what you need to know:

  • Complete ONE survey for each student.
  • The survey is found in Family Access.
  • Please complete it on a computer. It is not available through the mobile app.
  • It takes about 5 minutes.
  • Every survey counts the same!
  • Even if your family has no federal connection, please complete the survey. A “NO” answer moves our school’s car forward exactly as far as a “YES” answer!

So please take a few minutes, complete your student’s survey, and help Vinland move that car down the track! 🏁🐬

The finish line is waiting, and every family can help us get there!

Free and Reduced Meals

Free and Reduced Meals
- Free and reduced meal applications will be available in August. It is important that every family fill out this application. Many programs outside of free meals rely on this information, and families who qualify may be eligible for additional services, including free/reduced internet.

We want to inform you that our school did not qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2026–2027 school year. This means that free meals will no longer be available to all students automatically.

Students who have not completed and been approved for free or reduced-price meals will need to pay for both breakfast and lunch starting in the fall.

To ensure your child continues receiving meals at no cost or a reduced price, please be sure to:

  • Complete a Free & Reduced Meal Application as soon as it's available for the new school year Click here to complete the application.

  • Check the district website or contact our office for help with the application process.

We’re here to support you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need assistance.

Prior Approved Absences

It is important to ensure that your child's education is not disrupted due to extended absences. By requesting a Prior Approved Excused Absence Request Form (Formulario de ausencia previa concertada) and working with your child's teacher to create a learning plan, you can ensure that your child stays on track with their studies. Failure to complete the learning plan may result in unexcused absences, which can have consequences on your child's academic progress and future opportunities. As such, it is crucial to follow through with this process to ensure your child's success.

Annual School Safety Response Reminder

Dear Families and Caregivers,

As we begin a new school year, we want to share a quick reminder about the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) used in all of our schools. For families who are new to our district, SRP provides simple, consistent language for how students and staff respond to different safety situations.

The SRP uses five clear actions:

  • HOLD – Stay in your room or area until the situation is clear. Example: a medical emergency that requires hallways to remain clear.

  • SECURE – Lock outside doors and continue activities inside. Example: police activity nearby or a safety concern outside the building.

  • LOCKDOWN – Lock doors, turn off lights, and stay out of sight when there is a serious threat inside the school.

  • EVACUATE – Leave the building safely and calmly. Example: a fire alarm or gas leak.

  • SHELTER – Take steps to protect from a specific hazard. Example: an earthquake or severe weather.

Students and staff practice these actions throughout the school year so they know what to do and can respond quickly and safely.

Families can also become familiar with these terms. During a safety situation, we will use the SRP action in our communications whenever possible so you understand what is happening and how the school is responding.

Learn more about the SRP and school emergency communications at nkschools.org/about-us/safety-security/standard-safety-protocol. A “take one” flyer is attached, and is available in the school office with more details about each SRP action.

Thank you for working with us to keep our schools safe and ready to respond.
