Dear Monomoy Middle School Families,
It's time for the final round of MCAS testing! On Tuesday and Wednesday this week students will participate in Math MCAS. We’re so proud of how hard our students have worked this year, and we know they’re ready to show what they know. Please help set them up for success by making sure they are well-rested, on time, and have had a good breakfast on testing days. Let’s bring the energy, focus, and confidence to dominate the Math MCAS and finish the year strong! We've got this!
In partnership,
Abby Dudley
Principal
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Health Class Fundraiser! Congrats to Ms. Thompson and the students who volunteered today for our "Health Shelf" Fundraiser. Today the students raised over $550 to stock the ‘Health Shelf’ and use toward seminar excursions/resources. We are so proud of our students, they were phenomenal MRMS ambassadors. (see photos below)
MRSD Family Engagement Survey: Monomoy School District wants to hear from you! As parents and caregivers, your input is vital in the planning and implementation of engagement activities in our school. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. This survey will close June 1, 2025.
STEM Pathways Fieldtrip: Thanks to Mr. Barnes and Ms. Nyerick for arranging our trip to the Chatham Airport. These real world activities help bring our learning to life. Thanks to the Airport for hosting us! (see photos below)
CAP2U Fundraiser – Thank You, Mr. Jeff! This month, we're hosting a special fundraiser to support The Children's Alopecia Project, the incredible organization who visited our school in April. Mr. Jeff's powerful message about understanding and embracing differences through his experiences with alopecia deeply resonated with our students and staff. It was a truly memorable moment with a lasting impact on our community. As a heartfelt thank you, we're raising funds for CAP2U and raffling off two CAP2U sweatshirts! Raffle tickets are $5 each, and donations can be submitted in the main office. All are welcome to participate.
OLD NEWS AND REMINDERS!
Reminder-Appropriate Chromebook Use and Care: There is a troubling social media trend encouraging students to intentionally damage their school-issued Chromebooks by forcing metal objects such as paper clips, push pins, or pencil graphite into a port on the device. Not only can this destroy the device, but it also has the potential to create a safety hazard in the form of fire, smoke, and injury to students and staff. Any student who engages in this activity will face disciplinary consequences, and the family will be charged the full cost of a replacement device, as the damage is unnecessary. Please take a moment to talk with your child about this issue and reinforce the importance of using school equipment safely and appropriately.
MRMS Grading Practices - Family Survey: We are up to 74 responses on our grading survey. We will have this open for 2 more weeks and could love to hear from you as we look to norm grading practice across the building, increase transparency, and improve communication with families and caregivers.
7th Grade Pathways (for 6th grade families): This year was our initial year for our 7th grade pathways program and it has been a success with high engagement due to student choice. We will begin talking to 6th graders about their 7th grade pathway classes this week. Students have the option to choose Language, Music, or Advanced STEM for their pathways. There are also opportunities for students to receive academic support or reading services. If you would like input in your student's choice, we recommend discussing this with them ahead of forecasting which will happen the week of May 26th.
