PRINCIPAL GREETING
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to all those who came out to Parent Teacher conferences over the past two weeks. It was great to discuss the progress of students so far this year and make plans for future success. If you were unable to attend, please check Powerschool and reach out to your child’s teachers with questions or concerns.
As we move into the holiday season, there are many opportunities to donate to those in need- please check out the information below regarding our Thanksgiving food drive and our Holiday Gift Drive. If you are in need of support during this holiday season, please contact our counseling department who can provide you with resources for assistance.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Go Hounds!
Dr. McCann

Cafeteria News
Local Food Resources for New Jersey Families
SFAs may be experiencing increased calls from families concerned about the potential loss of SNAP benefits on November 1st. Please note the New Jersey Basic Needs Information Hub offers a comprehensive listing of websites that can assist households in locating a local food pantry or soup kitchen. Families may also choose to access the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Food Bank of South Jersey, Fulfill, Norwescap, and Mercer Street Friends websites directly to search for local food resources.
Thank you for providing these important resources to families at this time, and for your unwavering work to ensure New Jersey students receive healthy, nutritious meals every day.
Clinical Corner
November is Military Families Month, and I thought it would be appropriate to discuss the grieving process that military families go through whenever they have to move to a new location or in military speak, a permanent change of station or PCS. I think sometimes there is an assumption that just because moving so much is part of their lifestyle, that they are “used to it”. However, the loss of community, friendships, and a sense of “home” can cause stress, sadness and depression. This is referred to as the “PCS let-down” and is a valid emotional response to the frequent restarts and instability of military life. It’s important to recognize and validate these feelings in order to process the move and accept the new environment. Acknowledging the grief is important in order to give the family permission to grieve what is lost and help them cope. Exploring the new location and creating new connections can also help the process. These kinds of non-death losses can be just as difficult to experience, they fall under the “ambiguous loss” umbrella and often people go through the same stages of grief as if they have lost someone close to them although the people, places and things they love are still here. On the opposite end of this are the families that suffer the loss of the family that moved away and are grieving their absence. If you know a military family going through either side of this, it can be helpful to bring over a meal, be welcoming or empathetic, or just saying something like: “Transitions can be so hard, how can I help?” can go a long way.
