The Weekly Update #4
October 9th, 2025
SOUPer Bowl Drive
SOUPer Bowl Drive and Contest Versus Avon to Collect Food for Those in Need
As a fun and competitive contest that ultimately helps raise awareness and resources for those in our community who are most in need, a SOUPer Bowl Food Drive is underway in Avon Lake and Avon, to help collect non-perishable food items for our local pantries. The competition with Avon culminates on Friday, October 25, 2024, during our home football game, with a trophy awarded to the community with the heaviest truck stuffed full of goods. Peanut butter, cereal, canned fruits, and other non-perishable items are needed, and there will be drop off locations at all Avon Lake Schools. Let’s help those in need, and win that trophy, too!
Halloween Parade
We will be having our Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31, around 9:10 a.m. We are going to have the students parade through each classroom prior to heading outside for the parents to see. If you are planning on coming to watch the parade that morning, please line up on the sidewalk near the front bus loop and up to the main entrance. We will still start the parade by exiting out of the 4th grade doors and will walk along the front of the building and make our way to the front doors at the main entrance.
Costumes
While students are not required to wear costumes on October 31st, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:
1. Please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate “props” such as plastic guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed – even if they are a part of your child’s costume.
2. Students should wear their costume to school.
3. All costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.
Food
As a reminder, Avon Lake City School district has approved specific parties throughout the year that allows food in the classroom. All food must be store bought and pre-wrapped. No home baked goods will be allowed in the class. We also encourage take home treats instead of a food based item: pencils, erasers, stickers etc. If your child has a food allergy, please work with your homeroom parent/teacher to discuss the food options and discuss with your child what they are able to consume.
End of the Quarter
Just a reminder that our 1st quarter grading period ends on October 24th.
Fall 3rd Grade OST Testing
Eastview 3rd graders will be taking the English Language Arts Ohio State Test on Wednesday, October 15th and Thursday, October 16th.
Cooking Classes at Eastview
Cooking Classes Sponsored by Food Service Department are a Hit
We are proud to feature a success story courtesy of our Food Service Supervisor, Mrs. Andrea Sokolow, and her intrepid staff of foodies! For the second school year in a row, the Food Service Department is experiencing runaway success with a series of cooking classes geared toward elementary-age students, with a focus on "making quick dinners and healthier desserts for students and their families."
The cooking series began in the 2024-25 school year with 5-week classes featuring "Chef Amee." Classes were held at each of the District's elementary schools. There was such a terrific response to the program that Mrs. Sokolow brought the classes back this year, this time starting at Troy Intermediate School. After Troy, Chef Amee and our food service staff will take their talents to Eastview starting November 4th and 5th. The classes are free, with all ingredients and supplies provided by the Avon Lake City School District Food Service department.
The response has again been overwhelming, and all classes are currently full. To keep the classes safe and enjoyable for everyone, the number of classes and slots must be limited, and we regret having to turn people away once the classes are at capacity (12 students per series, 24 total).
However, due to the continuing, positive response from families, we will revisit a second round of courses after January 1st, so stay tuned!

Important Updates
Effective immediately:
· All e-bikes equipped with a throttle are prohibited from school campuses.
· All students in grades PreK–6 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend home football games, and remain with them while they are at the game.
These policy updates come in response to a concerning increase in students riding motorized bikes, often disregarding traffic laws, and consequently creating dangerous situations. Unfortunately, last Friday evening during halftime of the home football game, a Troy student was struck by a motorized bike outside the stadium gates. The student who was struck was transported to the hospital for treatment, and thankfully, sustained only minor injuries.
This incident, along with one previous at the end of last school year involving a student riding a motorized bike, has prompted us to revise our bike policy. As the district has communicated at the bottom of these emails the last several messages, and in partnership with our Police Department, e-bikes are not exempt from traffic laws. Riding recklessly, such as cutting through traffic lanes, riding on sidewalks, performing stunts, or failing to yield to pedestrians, is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated.
Consequently, and going forward, any e-bikes found on campus will be confiscated, students will need to meet with school administration, and parents will be contacted.
Additionally, while we appreciate parental supervision at our football games, please understand that staff and law enforcement officers cannot monitor every area of the stadium at all times. Students should not leave and re-enter the stadium during the game.
Effective immediately:
· Students in grades PreK–6 must sit with their parents in the home stands.
· Students in grades 7 and 8 will remain in the bleachers in the West Endzone.
· Once a student leaves the game area, re-entry will not be permitted.
Thank you for your understanding and your support in ensuring the safety of all students and attendees.
