Sunday Announcement!

Hello Navigators,

Please note that tomorrow, Monday, January 27th is a non-student day as staff will be participating in professional development on that day.

This week we will participate in the Great Kindness Challenge. We will have Spirit Days all week.

Tuesday - Students dress as staff, Staff dress as students

Wednesday - Anything but a Backpack

Thursday - Twin Day

Friday - Pajama Day

Our PTO will meet in the MPR on Wednesday 1/29 at 6 PM.

At 5 PM, prior to the PTO meeting we will hold a community meeting to discuss some challenges that have occurred at Nichols, and many schools, this year. We have had ongoing challenges over the last year or more with derogatory, biased and racist words being used. This has resulted in student conflict and is traumatic to those victimized. I would like to come together as a community to discuss this, listen to ideas to address the issues and share experiences and concerns.

Please take a moment to fill out the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Survey for Families. This survey will provide our district with information on your experiences with OUSD. The survey data will be shared with our LCAP committee. Your feedback will be used to make recommendations to the Board of Education based on the needs of our OUSD community. The survey will be open until January 31, 2025.

To help students learn and implement Habit 3 Put First Things First, we have sent home an at home challenge. Students received this form to help give them reminders of things they should do to be prepared for school. Please help them work through the items on the page. You can sign off those they complete or any that are not relevant for your student. Once all squares are signed they can bring it back to their teacher for a reward.

We are ordering new Leader in Me T-shirts for all students. Please complete this form to let us know the size. If you are willing to donate for the cost please use the link in the form to contribute.

The book fair begins on February 3rd in our Library. Check out this link for more information.

Can't wait to see everyone this week!

Safety Enhancement System

Hello Nichols Families,

After successfully piloting a school safety and audio system at two of our schools during the 23-24 school year, at the June 2024 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved installing this system at all OUSD schools.

This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the

classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught.

Along with audio and video capabilities, the new device incorporates a safety notification button to alert administration and front offices of any emergency situation. In the event of a classroom emergency, the teacher can activate the camera for office staff to view the situation. The device identifies the exact location to initiate school safety protocols. Further, and only in the event of a lockdown or active shooter emergency, Oceanside Police Department can utilize these same cameras to access views into classrooms and throughout the school.

Thank you for your constant support as we work to provide a safe and modern learning

environment for all! Slide Deck with more information.

We know there are times when issues come up that need to be resolved. OUSD has created a chain of communication that allows for an efficient resolution process. This is now located on our school’s website under “Our School” called Chain of Communication.
