A Note from Mr. Neufeld
Reaching the end of a school year is bittersweet. While both staff and students are excited for summer vacation, and the rest and rejuvenation that summer (hopefully) brings, saying goodbye and farewell is seldom enjoyable, even for a short time. It can be hard to say goodbye to people who you develop deep and meaningful relationships with.
At the same time, the end of the year marks a sense of accomplishment and growth for our students. Each person is a little older and a little wiser. They have obtained and mastered new knowledge and skills. They have made new friendships, or perhaps deepened old ones. They have taken on new responsibilities, and experienced new challenges, which were overcome through perseverance and grit. Each student has grown in their ability to comprehend different forms of text, write with structure and expression, and access mathematics facts and apply those facts in problems. Each student has further developed the learning competencies of critical thinking, communication, creativity, citizenship, collaboration, character, and literacy. That is exciting! It is important to see, acknowledge, and celebrate all of these steps in our student’s learning - I encourage you to find those opportunities to celebrate learning and growth this summer.
On another note, when I arrived at Mitchell Middle School in January of 2021, our current Grade 8 students were in Grade 5, and so this moment resonates for me as well. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know this group of young people, watching them grow from children, through the often challenging years of adolescence and now on the cusp of young adulthood. I wish each of them well, and look forward to seeing them come back to MMS for music concerts, drama productions, to support siblings in athletics, and to get sponsor signatures for driver’s ed! The MMS staff is proud of you and all that you have accomplished, and we look forward to hearing about the great things you will accomplish as you continue to learn and grow in high school.
Finally, to those staff members who are leaving MMS, I wish to extend my thanks and best wishes. The MMS team is second to none, and the teachers and EA staff leaving us have made meaningful and lasting contributions to the education of our students. Thank you for your dedication and care for Our Kids. You will be missed, but are always welcome back!
MMS students and families - have a safe, restful and enjoyable summer!

Windshelter Fundraising Update
Throughout the school year, the dedicated Mitchell Middle School Parent Advisory Council has worked hard to raise funds in support of the construction of a wind shelter for our students on the playground.
This year, after hot dog lunches, a silent auction, a peroogy and meats sale and canteens at both MMS's Track and Field Day and the HSD Soccer Day, our PAC raised $12,000! We are more than half way to our goal of $20,000!
MMS is thankful for the hard work of the PAC, and for the generosity of the Mitchell community. Thank you for your part in this impactful project for our students!
