Message from your administrators
Dear Parents, Families, and Care Givers,
What a wonderful month we've been having at Buckingham County Elementary School! As we wrap up our first quarter and jump into the second, we have so much to celebrate and even more to look forward to!
Our teachers recently spent a day working together during professional development, focusing on aligning instructional practices, unpacking standards, and strengthening lesson planning to ensure our students receive meaningful, high-quality instruction each day. We are proud of the dedication our teachers continue to show as they work to help every student grow and succeed!
Attendance Champions!
We have also been celebrating our students for showing up and making attendance a priority! Congratulations to last week's grade-level attendance winners:
3rd Grade: Mrs. Bryant's Class
4th Grade: Mrs. Wilkinson's Class
5th Grade: Mrs. Price's Class
Way to go, Knights! We can't wait to see which classes earn the bragging rights this week! Remember, every day counts, and being at school is the first step toward success!
Wild About Learning!
We were also excited to welcome Coastal Wilds to BES for a special assembly! Our students had the opportunity to learn about fascinating animals. We were especially proud of how well our students represented themselves and our school. They demonstrated respect, responsibility, and great listening skills throughout the experience!
Working Hard and Growing Strong!
Our students have been working hard in their classrooms and preparing for their benchmark assessments. These assessments provide valuable information about student progress and help our teachers plan instruction to meet individual learning needs. We are proud of the effort our Knights are putting into their learning!
Looking Ahead to the Second Quarter!
We have some wonderful things on deck as we continue through the school year! Get ready for exciting opportunities, including Spirit Week, family engagement nights, attendance celebrations, and reading and math incentives! We want our students to know that learning can be both challenging and FUN, and we look forward to celebrating their growth and accomplishments along the way.
A Partnership That Makes a Difference
As always, we appreciate the continued support and partnership of our BES families. We encourage you to take a few moments to talk with your child about what success looks like at school. Success is more than earning good grades. It means coming to school ready to learn, treating others with kindness and respect, following directions, giving your best effort, and making choices that allow everyone around you to learn and succeed.
Every child deserves a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment, and it takes all of us working together to make that happen. When we reinforce these expectations both at home and at school, we help our students develop habits that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Thank you for helping us make the first quarter a great one! We are excited for all the learning, laughter, growth, and celebrations still to come.
Let's keep the momentum going and let the learning and fun continue!

Reading/Language Arts...Amplifying our Success
October is bringing some wonderful reading adventures to our classrooms! This month, our 3rd graders are diving into the world of non-fiction to build real-world knowledge and master informational text. Meanwhile, 4th graders are fully immersed in their poetry unit, exploring creative language and writing. Finally, our 5th graders are wrapping up their own poetry studies and are excited to begin studying literary text featuring the adventurous tales of Don Quixote.
Easy ways to help with reading at home:
Ask questions: Talk about the book during or after reading. Ask what they think will happen next or what their favorite part was.
Read together: Take turns reading pages aloud, or simply sit together while you both read your own separate books.
Explore different formats: Encourage reading anything that interests them, including graphic novels, kid-friendly news articles, or audiobooks.
Spot real-world reading: Point out text in daily life, like recipes, street signs, game instructions, or cereal boxes.
Math...Making it all add up
Our classes are buzzing with math practice this October! 3rd grade is practicing how to count and use money, 4th grade is jumping into multiplication, and 5th grade is working on fraction and decimal equivalences.
Easy ways to help at home:
3rd Grade: Let your child count loose change or help pay with cash at the store.
4th Grade: Practice quick skip-counting (3, 6, 9...) while driving or walking.
5th Grade: Point out fractions and decimals on kitchen measuring cups or price tags.
Stay for the Encore and unlock more learning!
Library - We are working on Antonyms and Synonym review!
Art (Jamerson) - In Art we have been focusing on foundational skills and are beginning our color unit. We have a lot of different skill and reviews coming up as we move into the holiday season. We will end our color unit at the end of the month and start focusing on the study of traditional animation.
What's coming up and how we can partner!
