Welcome Back to School! 🍎

There is something special about the beginning of a new school year—the excitement of new beginnings, familiar faces returning, and the anticipation of all that the year ahead will bring. We are so excited to welcome both our returning students and families, as well as those who are joining the JS McCormick community for the first time. Our staff have been busy preparing, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Meet The Teacher event this Friday, August 28, from 10am–12pm. It will be wonderful to connect, say hello, and begin the year together!

One of the most exciting changes around our school this year is happening right out front! Our new A Den playground is taking shape, and we are incredibly grateful to the Lacombe Public Schools Enhancement Society, along with the many community members and local businesses who have volunteered their time, energy, and expertise to bring this vision to life. So much planning, preparation, and hard work has gone into creating what is shaping up to be some incredible new play spaces for our students. We cannot wait to see our students enjoying these spaces!

As we begin the year, we also encourage families to find ways to be involved in their child’s education and in our school community. One of the best ways to do this is through our School Council. Our monthly meetings are a wonderful opportunity for families to share ideas, provide input, and learn more about what is happening at the school. Our School Council also works hard to support our students through fundraisers, hot lunch, special events such as our Cabane à sucre, and the purchase of equipment and resources that enhance learning and programming throughout our school. We are so grateful for the incredible support and dedication of the parents who have contributed to our school community in these ways.

This year, we are looking for a new School Council Chair, and we would love to welcome interested families to our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:45 p.m. Whether you are ready to take on a leadership role or simply want to learn more and lend a hand, there is a place for you!

We can’t wait to welcome everyone next Tuesday and we look forward to an incredible school year ahead.

STAGGERED ENTRY STAGGERED ENTRY

EJSM students will have staggered start dates, with only half of each class attending school the first two days. This will allow teachers to work with smaller groups of students as they get to know each other and learn new routines and expectations.

Each kindergarten, grade one, two and three student will be invited to attend school on their specific starting date. Please see the schedule below for your child's staggered entry date. On these days, students will come for the full day based on where their last name falls in the alphabet. Parents will be allowed to come into the school to help their child bring their stuff to the classroom. You can find out your child’s teacher by checking in your Parent Portal on August 27. All Grade 1,2,3 students will begin attending daily starting on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

BRIGHT FUTURES PLAY ACADEMY

Miss Becky & Miss Allie will be connecting with our BFPA families to share when your child's staggered entry date(s) will be.

As of Tuesday, September 8th, parents/guardians are asked to drop off/pick up their children at the designated meeting space each day. Our school doors will remain locked at all times to ensure student safety.

In early October, each family will have a dedicated one-on-one Meet The Teacher appointment to discuss how your child is settling in and their social & emotional development as the school year begins.
