January 10, 2024
Dear District 67 and District 115 Teachers, Staff, Students, and Families:
Welcome Back to School!
I hope you had a joyful holiday season and a rejuvenating break. As we look ahead to the remainder of the 2023-24 school year, our focus on academic excellence and personal growth for our students at all levels will continue through the implementation of our District 67 and District 115 strategic plans and reporting of our progress through our Metrics. We will keep the lines of communication open, ensuring that you are informed and involved in the educational journey of your students. Your insights and feedback are invaluable.
Facilities Update
Facilities work continues in both districts as we seek to protect, preserve, and enhance our learning spaces. This week in District 67, we are welcoming DPM students back to a refreshed cafeteria with new furniture generously underwritten by the Spirit of 67 Foundation. Cherokee Elementary School students are returning to a completed ADA ramp and new collaboration and STEM learning spaces. In District 115, planning and design for referendum work continues. Initial bid packages will be presented to the Board for approval in March and the first major phase of construction work will begin after school ends in June. We were also thrilled to welcome back our Transition Center Program students to their brand new updated classroom spaces at West Campus! The complete redesign of instructional spaces includes a new fully operational teaching kitchen, increased natural lighting, and a vocational classroom.
Superintendent’s Advisory Council
My sincere thanks to the 85 people who applied for the new Superintendent’s Advisory Council. We are currently reviewing the applications and will extend invitations to those selected next week.
Coffee and Conversation with D67 and D115 Board Leadership
Our next community coffee with District 67 Board President Annie Geraghty Helms and District 115 Board President John Noble will take place at 6:30 PM at the Gorton Center on Wednesday, January 31. All are welcome!

Finally
The New Year often provides a time for fresh starts, chances not previously taken, and the wish that life continues to amaze us in ordinary and extraordinary ways. As we begin the second half of the school year, let us continue to grow and evolve together through hard work, open communication, and a shared purpose of academic excellence.
Happy 2024 and all the best to you and your families in the year ahead!
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.

I hope you all had a fantastic winter break. As we start fresh this year, I'd like to remind everyone of our safety response guide. District 67 is now using the same glossary of terms for crisis events in use at District 115. In the coming days, updated safety response guides will be placed in all classrooms. The digital version is pictured below for your reference.
Sincerely,
Director of Safety and Security
