Principal's Message
October is one of my favorite months, not only because of the changing weather and beautiful fall colors, but also because it means our students have made it through the first month of school, which can sometimes be a challenging transition after summer vacation. Like the changing weather, I have observed significant changes in our students as they adjust to the school routine. Students who were initially reluctant have transitioned into thriving students. I am incredibly proud of each of our students and the efforts they have made so far this year!
Last month, I discussed the assessments that our students needed to participate in as part of ACT 20. The month of September was spent administering these assessments, a tremendous undertaking for both our students and staff. As usual, our students exceeded my expectations with their efforts and attitudes during testing! These assessments will again be taken in winter and spring. I will be reporting on our progress throughout the year, starting with our beginning-of-the-year data, which can be found later in the newsletter.
Although our first round of parent-teacher conferences is not until November, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns about their academic progress. We are here to help and are only as strong as our collaborative efforts.
Data, Instruction, and Supports: How We Meet Our Students Needs
The first month of school is the time to collect baseline data on where our students are performing in both reading and math. We use this beginning-of-the-year (BOY) data as a starting point to monitor our students' growth, but also as a way to understand where our students stand with their skills and what we can do to further their academic development.
Every student is on their own journey, and our teachers meet each student where they are, providing differentiated activities and scaffolded supports along the way. Each grade level has a WIN (What I Need) time built into their schedule. It is during this time that students receive targeted instruction from their grade-level teachers, interventionists, or other staff who provide support. The groupings that occur during WIN are fluid, meaning they change as our students' needs change.
Students who receive interventions through Mr. Washuleski (our interventionist), SPED, or ML (Multilingual programming) will be progress monitored on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to track their growth. Parents will get an update at Parent-Teacher Conferences or through Nextpath.
School Learning Objectives
Every year, as a school, we create a School Learning Objective (SLO), which is a SMART Goal for the school year. We develop these goals for both math and reading to measure achievement and growth throughout the year. Here are our SLOs for this year:
Reading
Achievement: Lincoln-Erdman Elementary School will aim to increase the percentage of students in the high average or higher range (63rd percentile or higher) by five percentage points as measured on the STAR 360 assessment. Currently, 40% of our students are in the high average or higher range.
Growth: Lincoln-Erdman Elementary School will aim to increase the percentage of students in the high average or higher range (35 SGP or higher) for growth by two percentage points as measured on the STAR 360 assessment. SGP can not be calculated until we have multiple data points.
Math
Achievement: Lincoln-Erdman Elementary School aims to increase the percentage of students in the high average or higher range (63rd percentile or higher) by five percentage points, as measured on the STAR 360 assessment. Currently, 45% of our students are in the high average or higher range.

Trunk or Treat and Scholarship Pizza Fundraiser Information
Our first PTO sponsored event is coming up on Friday, October 17. It is our annual Trunk or Treat event. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities, including hosting a trunk or donating candy! Volunteer support for these events is crucial to ensuring they are conducted in a fun and cost-effective manner.
We are bringing back our scholarship pizza dinner that will start at 5:00 (30 minutes before the start of Trunk or Treat). Pizza order forms will be coming home on Friday, October 3. All profits from the pizza sales will go towards our Lincoln-Erdman Scholarship Fund. For well over a decade, we have proudly awarded two scholarships to graduating seniors who attended Lincoln-Erdman, thanks to the fundraising efforts of our scholarship committee and your participation. Thank you for your support!
