Veteran's Day Program
Tuesday, we gathered to honor and celebrate our veterans for their service and sacrifice. Students shared their appreciation through heartfelt songs and creative artwork. Members of FFA served as speakers for the program, delivering thoughtful messages about the meaning of Veterans Day. Student Council also presented a powerful Missing Man tribute to recognize those who never returned home.
Thank you to all who participated and to our veterans for your courage and dedication.
Fort Hays Tour
On Monday, Mrs. Houston, Mrs. Herder and 26 students visited Fort Hays Northwest Technical College. During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore a variety of programs, including automotive technology, early childhood education, construction, diesel technology, plumbing, and several others.
League Choir
On Monday, Ms. Lowry and two students attended League Choir in Caliche. Throughout the day, students rehearsed and learned new pieces to perform during the evening concert. Pictured are participants Kenna Madrid and Shayan Poss.
November Board Report
The Akron School Board heard from student and staff groups last night, swore in three new board members, and conducted a reorganizational meeting ahead of the regular meeting. Athletic Director, Tyler Pickens, gave an update on athletics and recent changes at CHSAA, which will impact classifications and leagues. The board then heard from two committees from the middle school and high school about the work they have done with student data and culture and climate at the school. Mrs. Dreitz and her FFA officer team presented their program of approval and recent activities with the chapter. Newly elected board members Corby Kneedler, Fred Raish, and Megan Bower were sworn in, and member offices were voted on during the reorganizational meeting. Board officers are as follows: Andy Molt, President; Megan Bower, Vice President; Corby Kneedler, Secretary; Barney Filla, Treasurer; and Fred Raish, Director. Andy Molt will be the CASB representative, and Fred Raish will be the BOCES representative for the school. Another highlight of last night’s meeting was the school audit given by Scott Szabo. Mr. Szabo reported that the school is in a very solid position and credited Mrs. Kelli McCaffrey and the other staff for doing a great job with the district’s financials.
Building Trades
Our Building Trades class has completed their shed project!
This new building is located just south of the baseball field. Throughout the project, students gained hands-on experience in construction skills including electrical wiring, garage door installation, cement work, and siding. We’re proud of their hard work and dedication in bringing this project to completion!
Mighty Mentor Fun
Last week, our 8th graders and preschoolers gathered for another amazing Mighty Mentor Day — and this time, it was all about board games, teamwork, and laughter!
Together, our “big buddies” and “little buddies” learned new rules, practiced patience and sportsmanship, and shared plenty of giggles along the way.
Our Mighty Mentors program is all about connection — helping our middle schoolers grow as leaders and role models, while our youngest Rams build confidence and joy through friendship.
We love watching our students learn, play, and grow together!
Pom
Our Pom team is getting ready for State!
What better way to prepare than a game day makeup practice. A big thank you to Jami Furrow for coming in to help the girls get competition ready!
State Pom will be held at the Denver Coliseum on December 12th.
Volleyball
Congratulations to our Lady Rams on an incredible season! Your hard work, teamwork, and dedication have made our school and community proud. Thank you, players and coaches, for your determination and sportsmanship throughout the year — you represented the Rams with heart and pride every step of the way.
Football
The Rams took down Crowley County last Saturday 42-14 and are advancing in the playoffs!
They’ll host the Mancos Bluejays this Saturday, November 15th at 1:00 PM.
Come out and cheer on our Rams as they continue their playoff run!
MS Basketball
The middle school boys basketball season is underway. This week they traveled to Fort Morgan where 6 levels saw time on the court. The boys also hosted Sterling on Thursday afternoon, with all levels seeing playing time again.
