Sixth Grade Academy monthly newsletter

The Wildcat Prowl is our monthly digital newsletter that keeps parents and students up to date on everything happening here at SGA. You will find information on upcoming dates of events/activities, clubs/organizations, classroom newsletters and important announcements.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Lovington Schools is proud to partner with the Lovington Food Coalition to help supply food items for Thanksgiving Baskets. Food will be collected from each school on November 19, 2026 and be distributed to families on November 23, 2026. The Lovington Food Coalition is so grateful for the outpouring of generosity the schools have shown as we start our 12th season of giving. This year SGA will be collecting canned cranberry sauce.
SGA Student Council Shines at Homecoming
Our Sixth Grade Academy Student Council members showed their school spirit on Thursday, October 8, by helping decorate our Homecoming parade float and proudly representing our school in the parade! Students enjoyed riding on the float, celebrating Homecoming, and spreading smiles throughout the community by handing out candy along the parade route. We are proud of our student council members for their teamwork, enthusiasm, and school spirit!
Celebrating Our Principal, Steve Barron
In honor of National Boss’s Day on October 16, we took time to celebrate our very own Principal, Steve Barron! We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, and the many ways he supports our students, staff, and school community each day. Thank you, Mr. Barron, for all you do to help make our school a wonderful place to learn and work. We appreciate you!
Election Day and Instructional Friday Schedule
There will be no school for students or staff on Tuesday, November 3, in observance of Election Day. Since our school follows a four-day school week, Friday, November 6, will be an instructional day to make up for the missed school day.
Please plan accordingly, as students and staff will attend school on Friday, November 6, instead of following our usual Friday day off. School will resume on Monday, November 9, following our regularly scheduled school calendar.
Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation!
Picture Retake Day - November 18
Picture retake day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18! This is an opportunity for any students who missed our original picture day or would like to have their school picture retaken. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly. We look forward to capturing those smiles!
Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
There will be no school for students or staff on Wednesday, November 25, and Thursday, November 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. School will resume on Monday, November 30, following the regularly scheduled calendar.
Please note that Tuesday, November 24, will follow our regular school schedule, with students attending a full day of school and dismissal at 3:40 p.m.
We wish all of our students, families, and staff a safe, happy, and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Monthly Attendance Incentives
Wildcats of the Month - Integrity
Last month, our Portrait of a Wildcat focus was Integrity - doing the right thing when no one is watching.
These students are part of our district’s Portrait of a Wildcat initiative, which identifies the skills every Lovington student needs to succeed: confidence, communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and integrity. The initiative also supports our 2024–2029 Strategic Plan’s goal of engaging students in meaningful learning and building strong school communities.

Homecoming Week Fun at SGA
Sixth Grade Academy students and staff had a blast showing their school spirit during Homecoming Week! From cozy pajamas and animal print/camo to beach vibes and our blue and white spirit day, everyone had the opportunity to participate, get creative, and join in the fun. It was wonderful to see our school community come together, show their spirit, and make lasting memories throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make Homecoming Week so much fun!
Halloween Fun at SGA!
Our Sixth Grade Academy students got into the Halloween spirit on Thursday, October 29, by showing off their creative costumes during Red Ribbon Week! From spooky to silly, our students brought plenty of fun and Halloween spirit to campus. We loved seeing everyone participate and enjoy a little festive fun while celebrating the importance of making healthy, positive choices. Thank you to our students for making the day so much fun!
