Message from Our Principal
Hello Mountain View Family,
Thank you for all you do for Mountain View each and every day. We truly appreciate your support and encouragement.
Spring Break is March 11-15. Our staff will be resting to prepare for the last nine weeks of school. It is a busy nine weeks with STAAR testing and the final burst to help our students learn as much as possible before summer break. Teachers will also reach out to some parents to schedule a parent conference for students who may need support in learning over the summer. All students have an opportunity to attend summer learning as KISD will offer remediation for those needing additional learning and enrichment camp in June. The teachers and I will share more as we get closer to May.
I will continue to send out "Friday Reminders" so you have an additional reminder as events draw closer.
I hope to see you at our annual Reading Night on February 29.
Until next month,
LaBecca Thompson
Principal, Mountain View ES
Current Student Registration Opens February 27 (to April 9)

Counselor's Corner
Grades Pre-K - 2:
Hello Parents!
Our Pre-K through 2nd students have been focusing on the character trait of Fairness. We have learned that sometimes fairness doesn’t mean we all get the same thing, but we all get what we need. We also looked at the difference between need vs want.
What is Fairness?
1. Treating everyone with honesty and respect
2. Giving everyone the equal opportunity to be successful
3. Cooperating with one another
4. Celebrating the uniqueness and value of everyone
5. Making sure others are not treated poorly.
Why is Fairness important?
To make our home, school, community, and world a better place for all people. We read the book “Fair is Fair,” by Sonny Varela, which illustrates fairness in a practical way, as well as “Wants vs Needs vs Robots,” by Michael Rex.
COPING SKILL:
Stop, Breathe and Respond
Students have been learning the coping skills of STOP and TAKE A DEEP BREATH before RESPONDING. They enjoyed being creative with coloring the little person by making it look like a Ninjas, Superheros, or themselves.
Grades 3-5
It is so hard to believe that we are already in the month of March. We have learned so many important life skills so far and as we continue our learning adventure we have so much more to learn and practice. Our third-grade students will be working on learning about Self-Regulation skills with our book study with “The Legend of the Regulators”, by Brad Chapin.
Our fourth-grade students will be completing their studies on Bullying by learning about and practicing Assertiveness and Communication skills. Verbal communication skills, such as tone and volume, will also be practiced so that we can make sure the message we are sending is the message that others are receiving. They will also learn about people’s personal boundaries, how they can be different with different people and in different situations. And the importance of knowing these differences.
Our fifth-grade students will also be participating in learning these skills as well as how to help finish this school year strong and to prepare for middle school success.
We enjoy going into the classrooms and learning with your students. They are a joy to have and thank you for entrusting us with them.
