What's Happening at LMS
From the Principal
It has been great to welcome our students back to Legg Middle School and see the building come to life again. The first few weeks of a school year are always busy as students learn new schedules, reconnect with friends and teachers, and settle into the routines of school. I have appreciated the positive start our students and staff have worked together to create. Our WEB leaders were on hand during the opening week to help sixth graders navigate lockers and find their classes, and throughout the building our staff have been working to help students feel comfortable and successful as they get settled.
We are also beginning to see many of the opportunities that make middle school more than just the time students spend in class. Student Council is getting underway, Builders Club is welcoming new members, and students can explore interests through Youth in Government, Science Olympiad, and our Iron Talons competitive robotics team. Our fall athletic season is underway as well, including a recent win for our 8th grade A volleyball team. Just as importantly, we have begun recognizing Students of the Week for the positive contributions they are making at LMS.
As we move beyond the opening weeks, our focus shifts from simply getting started to building strong habits that will carry us through the year. Attendance is an important part of that work. Our Quarter 1 challenge is to reach 90% attendance, and we will continue reminding students that being here, on time and ready to learn, makes a difference.
Thank you to our families for everything you have done to help us get the year off to a good start. We value your partnership and look forward to all that is ahead for our Cardinals this year. All in, all together, all the time!

Stay Connected
What is Rooms?
Rooms is a secure communication platform that helps families stay connected with their child’s teachers and school. Through Rooms, families can receive classroom and school updates, announcements, and messages, and communicate directly with teachers and staff in one convenient place. Rooms also includes automatic translation to help make communication more accessible for families who prefer to communicate in another language.
Morning Announcements!
Did you know that our daily morning announcements are available online? This is a great way for families to stay in the loop and for students to revisit important reminders, celebrations, and upcoming events. Even if you can’t hear them live at school, you can catch up anytime and stay connected to the exciting things happening at LMS.

School Assessment Data
The 2025–26 state assessment results were recently released, and we have begun reviewing our M-STEP and PSAT data to better understand areas of strength and opportunities for continued growth. Overall, LMS performance is generally in line with statewide levels, with encouraging results in several areas.
As always, state assessment results are one piece of a much larger picture that includes classroom performance, student work, benchmark assessments, and the day-to-day learning we see throughout the year. If you have specific questions about your student’s achievement or assessment results, please reach out to your student’s teacher or the school office. We are always happy to help provide additional context and talk about how we can continue supporting your student’s growth.
