St Anthony's School News

Week 11 - Thursday 27th June 2024
Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
As the school term ends, it is time to unwind and cherish moments with family. Holidays provide a vital time for our students to relax, recharge and create memories with family and friends. As always, it has been a busy term for students, staff and families. I hope that you can all manage to have a great break, and we will see you all back in Term 3.
School Reports
Yesterday, parents received their child's end-of-semester reports. These reports are more than just a summary of grades; they are a crucial snapshot of your child’s academic journey. It is important to analyse your child's report so you can celebrate their achievements throughout the semester whilst providing the opportunity to have a discussion with your child and set goals for Semester 2. I thank all the teachers for their hard work putting together these detailed reports.
Family Night
Last week's Family Night was a heartwarming gathering that brought the community together as one, whilst showcasing our parents' and staff's commitment to the St Anthony's Way: Being Supportive. It was great to see so many families in attendance.
I want to thank all the staff for attending the evening so we can acknowledge and celebrate our students. Additionally, thank you to the P&F for organising such a delicious sausage sizzle, which was no doubt enjoyed by all. I would also like to thank the Wellbeing Team at St Anthony's, who worked tirelessly in the background to prepare many of the activities found in the rooms - hopefully you managed to find your way to the Wellbeing Hub!
Book Fair
Last week, the library hosted the school Book Fair. Thanks to Mrs Moynihan and her helpers throughout the week for their dedication to this event. The fair raised a great amount of money to purchase new books and items for the school library. Great work, Mrs Moynihan!
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week, held from 7th to 14th 2024, is a vibrant celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, history and achievements. This year’s theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud,” honours the enduring strength of First Nations culture. The flame symbolises our connection to Country, traditions, and each other. For more information on Naidoc Week, please visit: https://www.naidoc.org.au/
Staffing
At the end of this term, we say farewell to Miss Carmel Mohen, who has been teaching Year 4 Gold, whilst we welcome back Mrs Marie-Anne Bond. I would like to say a special thank you to Miss Mohen for her incredible dedication and hard work over the past six months. Miss Mohen will be missed!
God Bless

Vision Statement
St Anthony's School community works collaboratively to teach and live the values of Christ. While respecting tradition, and to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society, it strives to educate our children to their full potential.
School Code of Conduct
A reminder that every member of the St Anthony’s School community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct.
Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe: at school, and elsewhere. Children and young people surrounded by adult and peer behaviours as outlined in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
Conduct Statements
- You act safely and competently.
- You give priority to students’ safety and well-being in all your behaviour and decision making.
- You act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- You conduct yourself in accordance with laws, agreements, policies and standards relevant to your relationship with the school community.
- You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.
- You treat personal information about members of the school community as private and confidential.
- You give impartial, honest and accurate information about the education, safety and well-being of students.
- You support all members of the school community in making informed decisions about students.
- You promote and preserve the trust and privilege inherent in your relationship with all members of the school community.
- You maintain and build on the community’s trust and confidence in Catholic schools and the Church.
- You act reflectively and ethically.
- You allow students to have a voice in their education, safety and well-being
The Code describes the minimum requirements expected of all members of our community and that all in our community conduct themselves personally and professionally in a way that maintains public trust and confidence in our school and the Church. While mandatory language such as ‘must’, ‘shall’ and ‘will’ is not used throughout the Code, there is a presumption the conduct described is mandatory and therefore not optional.
Sport News
What a fantastic day we had last Friday at NIPSSA Inter-School Country Carnival. We had some outstanding individual results throughout the day, culminating in our team finishing 3rd out of 13 schools in Division B, behind St Luke’s (1st) and St Andrew's (2nd). This is the best result St Anthony’s has achieved and this means we will be moving up to Division A in 2025.
Thank you to all those who helped last week setting up, marshaling, and supporting the children throughout the day.
The following students were placed in the top 10 in their races this year:
Year 2 - Aily Ojogwu – 2nd Place
Year 3 – Cormac Long – 3rd Place
Year 4 – Ethan Ojogwu – 1st Place
Year 4 – Theo Langullah – 2nd Place
Year 4 – Kayla Weston – 1st Place
Year 5 – Kobe Peters – 1st Place
Year 5 – Lennon Power – 8th Place
Year 6 – Sophie Langullah – 1st Place
Year 6 – Estella Velarde – 7th Place
Congratulations to all the students who participated.
Yours in sport
