Dear East Community,

The start of the 2026-2027 school year is right around the corner. We hope that all of our East families had a great Summer and are energized to get another school year started. I can tell you that all of the faculty and staff are excited and ready to see all of our students. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming Freshmen Class and all of our new students who will be joining us this year. East High School is a terrific place that has a strong tradition of academic excellence and a school culture that is warm and inviting.

In anticipation of the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8th, we would like to provide you with some important information and as always, please check the main page of WITS for additional information.

  • Full student schedules will be available by 3:00pm on Thursday, September 3rd on WITS. Please print a copy of your schedule prior to opening day. This schedule will include room numbers and the names of your teachers. **Please note that first period is your homeroom, students with first period free will report to the commons. We will also have hard copies of your schedule available as well.

  • Locker assignments are posted to your WITS profile page. Your locker number and combination will be listed. Keep this information confidential. Locker numbers beginning with a “2” are on the second floor, and beginning with a “3” are on the third floor. 10-12th grade students are assigned the same locker as last year. A tutorial video on how to open your locker is included in this newsletter. If you have any questions or problems with your locker please stop in the main office.

  • Bus information is also on WITS. If you have any transportation concerns, please contact the Transportation Department at 626-8397. As always, your patience is appreciated as bus routes are adjusted at the start of the year. All PM buses line up randomly at the flagpole entrance. You will need to know your PM bus number at dismissal.

  • Entry into the building before school is limited to three doors prior to 7:45am:

-the flagpole/main entrance into the commons (green) #1

-the sports hallway #20

-the Paradise Rd. south door only (red) #7

  • Once school has started, we have a single point of entry beginning at 7:45am – the ONLY entry door will be on the flag pole side, door #1.

  • Student drivers must register their vehicles to park on campus. Parking permit applications are on WITS under school forms.

  • Classes at Harkness or other off site locations will begin on Wednesday, September 9th. Be sure to pick up your bus information from the attendance office (morning harkness) and the main office (afternoon harkness).

  • Any scheduling concerns will only be addressed during your free period in the Guidance Office.

  • Early release and late arrival applications for 11th and 12th graders only are available on WITS under school forms. Students are not permitted to leave the building without a completed packet filled out and approved. This includes parent signature (application) and verbal parent communication (phone call) as well as school approval (administrative review). Once your application is received, a parent MUST call 626-8406 to confirm, administration will review, and your pass will then be processed.

  • Picture day will be on Sept 14th and 15th during PE classes. Students will receive their student ID at this time which will be required during the school year. Senior re-take day is 10/27. Underclassmen re-take day is 11/5.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. We hope you enjoy the last few days of Summer and we look forward to seeing all of our students on Tuesday, September 8th!

Sincerely,

Jason T. Swenson

Education Law section 926, effective July 1, 2026, requires school districts to provide electronic or written information on water safety to parents/guardians at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year. Additionally, the school district must publish this information on its website. The New York State Department of Health has provided school districts with swim tips regarding drowning prevention, water safety and safe and healthy swimming.

Violation of the cell phone policy will result in the the phone being brought to the Main Office, stored and locked away, for the remainder of the school day. After the student's first incident, all subsequent occurrences will need to have a parent pick up their phone. The Main Office will be available until 3:30pm each day for parents who need to pick up their child's cell phone. Phones that are not picked up by the end of the day will remain in school, locked away, until a parent can pick up their phone the next school day.
